Despite my thread a while ago about being done buying gear (yeah, that went out the window but I think it might actually be true now), I recently got rid of my Yamaha LL6 and picked up a 'lifer' acoustic - a limited edition Gibson Songwriter from the Gibson Custom Shop. Only 65 of these were produced for Canada's main gear retailer, although they do currently make a regular production 'Studio' version of the guitar. Mine was NOS, and had been sitting in a store for four years. They originally sold for $3599 before taxes, and this one was reduced to $2199. The originating store refused to transfer it to my local store, so I emailed the company president and he made it happen.

The guitar has an Adirondack red spruce top with mahogany back and sides. It also has a beautifully streaked rosewood fretboard.

Anyway, here is my new 'lifer' acoustic:

Nice, I was coveting a cutaway Songwriter for a couple of years.

It is! And unlike many acoustics that I tried, it sounds nice and bright even when played with fingers (I am transitioning to playing with fingers only so that was an issue in my search), and the bass is never boomy (due to deficiencies in my technique at the moment, bass sometimes sounded boomy).

I seriously considered a cutaway but then stumbled across this one. As soon as I tried it, I knew it was for me.

A friend of mine snapped me out of it when he asked if I had ever found myself wanting to play those frets but being unable to. When I said no, he told me not to limit my search to cutaways.

That is how you find your acoustic guitar. Congrats and here's to many satisfying years of making music together.

That’s lovely and well done for escalating to a section maker not some spotty pipsqeek.
