The GAS for an honest to goodness Gibson Les Paul had become unbearable. I listed, and sold one of my Teles to make this happen. It went to a good home, so that helps. I’m on a “one out, if one is coming in” plan these days.
I’ve played several different models recently, and almost thought a 2019 Standard 60s was the one. Then I decided I should check out the thicker neck on the 2019 Standard 50s. Game Over! It instantly felt right, with a nice, rounded profile that fit my palm nicely. I have smaller hands, so I thought the 60s slim taper would be better. So glad I played one more, while waiting for my Tele buyer to raise his funds.
I ended up calling Wildwood, after reading really positive reviews everywhere I looked. I had called around to “test the waters” price wise, prior to calling WW. I was pleasantly surprised with their price, which includes a full setup, including strings of your choice. The vibe I got from them was of top-notch customer service. VERY customer focused! I felt really good spending this kind of coin with a business who understands what service looks like. I am super excited about owning this guitar. The whole feel of the Standard 50s is authentic, vintage LP. The Alnico 2 Burstbuckers, with the uneven windings sound great. No PCB boards, no coil tapping, no weight relief, just an honest, original Lester.
It actually got here yesterday, and I’ve been playing the heck out of it. I am smitten! It is extremely resonant. It weighs 9.1 lbs, but feels like less. It is really balanced, which contributes to the comfort. Wildwood did a phenomenal setup on it, and threw on a set of EB regular slinkys. Still in tune when it got to my house. Speaking of tuning stability, as good as any of my Fenders. Playing clean through my Blackstar 6L6 amp, the low end is beautifully fat. The neck pickup is lush, but not muddy. Add overdrive, and it’s exactly what you expect from a Les Paul, a wall of classic rock sound!
I know all about the “honeymoon” phase, but this feels different. I think there’s a strong bond forming between us.
Im going to call her Rhiannon, because she arrived on Halloween, and cast a spell on me!
Oh, and that smell of the Nitro :D:D:D

I prefer the bigger necks, too.

Thanks! But this is one of the new original series, considerably cheaper than a historic VOS. I’d have to sell a kidney for one of those!

Beautiful and proper. Lovely top. Sorted! I have a few lesters and prefer the P90s but lower wind humbuckers with 50s wiring are a sweet thing.
