Because flying has been such a clusterfark this year, my wife and I have been occasionally renting a home for the weekend on Lake Granbury, which is about an hour and 15 minutes southwest of Dallas. I had taken my 1983 Fender R7 Strat reissue with me on previous trips, which worked well, but I had wanted a Squier, both to noodle around in my home office, and to have a rugged no-fuss guitar to throw in a case and travel with, and not worry about. Since my R7 Strat was black with a maple fretboard as a Clapton "Blackie" homage, I thought I'd go with Lake Placid Blue as a Jimmy Page tribute.

It arrived from Sweetwater in tune (though curiously, the 1/4" jack was loose), and plays great. Though compared to my guitars with maple and rosewood fretboards, the Indian Laurel fretboard feels a bit dry and rough when bending notes. Does anyone have advice on how to make it feel a bit smoother?

The guitar had been back-ordered for a month and a half, and actually arrived on the day of our departure. Here's the guitar in a couple of Sweetwater photos, and the day of arrival in the rental home, and next to my "mobile studio:" an iPad Pro, Fireface UCX audio interface, and an ancient Midi-Man (pre-M-Audio) Oxygen 8 keyboard:

Orange oil for the fretboard. Also polishing the frets could help smoothen things up a bit.

Congrats! I have an older LPB CV 60s Strat (with the matching headstock back then) and it is a wonderful guitar. It sits comfortably and proudly with its 6 other USA Strat siblings in my music room.

The Classic Vibe Lake Placid Blue is gorgeous and it plays and sounds great. Enjoy that beauty!

Most new Squiers I buy have dry fingerboards and sticky frets. As @LaceSensor advises, oil the fingerboard now and polish the frets at your first string change.

    Sweet guitar!
