Well this is a rare bird. X Japan “Hide” model Fernandes MG100X BLK. When I first saw it I thought it would make a nice project but after I brought it home I realized it was a special model so it’s better to leave it as intended since it’s all factory correct as it sits. X Japan was a very popular metal band in Japan and Hideto Matsumoto was the lead guitar player that committed suicide and ended an “Era” This was one of the models he played. This guitar was originally purchased in Japan. It has Gotoh Japan bridge and locking tuners. Lots of fun to play with a thin fast neck. The bottom switch defeats the volume knob.

And for those who wonder what kind of Music Matsumoto-sama made on that kind of guitar...

A pickup maker here, Mick O'Brierly has a Fernandez thinline, and a queue of people wanting to buy it.

As a Fernandes fan myself (a white sustainer model very like the Ed O'Brien strat, a black 'lawsuit' Tele -- that's him over there on the left <---, and a Burny Les Paul) I can only congratulate you.

Though it's not actually that rare a bird. Can't move for Hide models in our local second-hand shops. There are about 60 of them currently going on Yahoo auctions. I was shocked to learn that Fernandes even do a 'cheap line' version under the Target brand (same way Aria do Legend). But what you've got is a proper one.

Really? I have just never seen one and didn’t know they even existed. This one was brought to the United States from Japan. I was not aware they were ever sold in the US? So to me it’s definitely not a common guitar.

I guess X Japan didn't have any success in the US, and so Fernandes didn't think it worth selling a model there that owed much of its appeal to the association. So yes, just as a Kookaburra would be a rare bird here in Japan (though they were all over the place when I was in Perth), your Mockingbird is also rare in the States.

Rare or not, though, if you get a nice Fernandes, you get a nice guitar!

Funny though, I just recently (before getting the guitar) watched “we are x” and couldn’t believe I never heard of X Japan before.
