Welp, I did it. I sold a drum kit I had, threw a bit of money on top of it and bought a used Marr Jag. It's my first American Fender. It's surprisingly resonant for a Jag and isn't super heavy. There are a few dings, one on the bottom bout (which can be seen in the first picture), and some more serious paint damage closer to the neck plate. I don't really care about either, the guitar's going to get played, it's not going to be a museum piece.

I got to plug it into my 63 Ampeg Jet this morning and play with it for a bit at a "reasonable" volume, and I was very impressed by how it sounded. I was fooling around with the strangle switches and I even really enjoyed those sounds. I honestly wasn't able to find a bad sound on it.

Anyways, now for the pictures. I already ordered a mint pickguard for it, because the stark white on the Oly is a bit ehhh to me, and I'm one of those monsters who doesn't absolutely adore tort.

    Some day, it will happen.

    Congrats... its gorgeous.

I'm a Marr fanatic, and I'm praying he makes a Comet Sparkle version. I took this pic at The Paradise in Boston a while back:

I'd love to hear what you think of the pickups and the wiring configuration. Apparently he spent quite a bit of time working out the annoyances of the traditional Jag setup.

    Congrats again, it's a stunner.

Awesome! I got an AO Jag last year and it was the first time I'd played one and I agree with you that there isn't a bad sound on these guitars. They've also got their own thing going on - not a Tele, not a Strat, but still unmistakably Fender sound.

    Congrats!

I hear this from other folks. Am I in the minority? I don't find the traditional setup annoying.

Super cool axe! Big fan of Olympic White. Gotta say I would leave that white pickguard on it...looks great to me. Now a mint pickguard does looks great with Faded Sonic Blue/Surf Green. Enjoy!

The Marr Jags are fine, fine guitars. Welcome to the club! I punted the white guard on my red (AKA, "Metallic KO") Marr in favor of parchment for the same reason.

Me either, because its not. It's just another piece of internet lore that won't die.

The Marr Jag does have a modified wiring scheme, but that's due to Mr. Marr's preferences and not some inherent unsuitability with the design. I definitely like having a series/parallel option on a Jaguar and it's especially useful on the Marr with its low output pickups. There's nothing really wrong with a Staytrem style bridge like the one on the Marr either, as long as your string spacing lines up... which the early ones didn't. With the proper setup, there's nothing wrong with the standard offset bridge, and the grooved saddles allow you to adjust to different string spacings which makes it more adaptable.

    Lovely.

But why oh why do they use a signature decal on the front of the headstock?

Should always be on the back….. or better still not there at all.

    Cool!

It’s got the same big 2x4 style neck heel that mine has

Makes the neck feel square and beefy

It doesn’t bother me on the marr model because I like to think of it as the “jaguar 2.0” rather than a signature

    Usually I agree though

Also at least on this one it’s a waterslide on top of the finish so it’s easy to remove and I’ve seen many with them taken off

    Oh that is so awesome.

I've been looking at these for a while and am at the point where I'm looking at the guitars in my collection to trade.

Friday I'm heading near a store that has one in stock... the GAS is taking over...

I am going to look at it.. its brand new in metallic KO. I could pay for it... but.. I'm getting into the realms of having guitars that don't get played. So the wise thing is to offload something.

I could pay for it then decide what to offload afterwards... but we all know that in that scenario.. I'll be keeping them all.

Fantastic! Easily the greatest Jag Fender has made. Congrats!

Big Johnny Marr fan here too - met him once and saw his playing up close that same night in a small club. A true gent and genius.
