These really are great guitars. I've been enjoying my Surf Green Esquire since late summer.
My only Surf Green guitar is my Squier Esquire which is a great guitar. I really love it.
I do prefer the neck on the new Fender though.
Wow! Really nice Tele. Congrats.
I’m familiar with the esquire wiring, but on position 3 do you have a really bassy tone (like the originals), or do you have more of a « cocked wah » tone (« Eldred mod »)?
I have the latter on mine, and it’s really great, especially with a bit of drive.
Yes, same for me, more of a cocked wah sound (and I see it as much more usable).
My Squier Esquire has the bassy tone on the 3rd position.
It’s a much more useful position indeed.
Originally on mine it was the « full throttle » wiring: straight to the output / vol. only / vol + tone. The first position wasn’t useable for me since I tend to dime my amps and roll the volume back on the guitar. And there was very little tone difference between this and the volume only position, whereas there’s a very audible difference between vol. only and vol + tone, even with the tone at 100%.
This may sound dumb, but the only thing that kept me from getting one of these (besides the price) was that it doesn't have the dark/bassy sound in the neck position like the original Esquire's had. I know the sound on this one is more "usable", but I wanted that bass heavy, muted sound. Ended up getting a Harmony Juno instead, which has that rolled off tone option and also cost nearly half as much.
I do get your point, but with all the rest of the features being faithful to the original I think it's a good buy.
They really nailed it to the smallest details.
Honestly, I still want one. But with three Telecasters already it didn't seem like it would be adding a whole lot of variety. If I come across one at a nice discount, I'll probably grab it.
Sorry...I meant to say Esquire. I quit coffee four days ago and my mind is doing strange things to me. I'm kinda out of sync right now. Bear with me.
I've just found out that while I'm on the middle position, rolling the Tone knob all the way down certainly gives that bassy sound!!
Thank you very much.
I am trying to quit caffeinated soft drinks, and have been drinking a lot of black tea.
I think I know what you mean! :^)
I know envy is a sin, but I confess it here
I wish there were enough Esquires around that I could try one and feel comfortable that I don't need it. As is I have a nagging doubt that I would be transported to heaven by one
I am infinitely jealous, look after her. This is a keeper for life.
Are these neck routed or total slabs routed just for the bridge like the Squier?
Neck routed too. and apparently the original one was the same.
Very nice! Congratulations.
