I've done some reading up on these guitars lately, and people seemed to have issue with the middle pickup always being on all the time.

When you try to lower the volume on the middle pickup or take it out of the mix, it effects the overall tone of the other pickups as well.

If I find this to be an issue for me as well, there's some mods online that correct this issue and makes the guitar way more usable.

My local guitar tech/friend could perform any of these mods for me and wouldn't cost me much.

Once I get the guitar back next week, I'll put it through its paces and make sure I'm happy with the overall feel and playability, and more importantly all the stock tones available from this guitar.

I'll then decide what the next step is.

I've read up on this guitar and what all the issues people have with middle pickup.

There was a guy who blogged about this guitar and he fixed the middle pickup issue.

He took out the pickup spacer under the middle pickup and installed a thinner one.

Here's a pic of what he did to remedy the middle pickup getting in the way.

Good to know there is a work around/quick fix for the problem, and I might add, I think that was very likely THE problem.

Nice catch, hope it works out for you.

IIRC there was not an access panel on the back, I'm not a talented F hole fixer on anything.

Nice fit and finish, why I attempted twice to get married to one. Good balance too.

My guitar tech has worked and modded plenty of Epi and Gibson ES style guitars, so it won't be an issue at all, if I have to go this route.

Hoping I don't I have have to do any mods, but if I do and it makes it a keeper, than I'm good with that too.

That is a pretty interesting idea, but remember that P90's do not have strong magnetic pull and the farther away from the strings you get, the more 60 cycle hum and muddy they become. A P90 sounds best really close to the strings and that is where the P93 failed for me. It would have been a keeper with just the 2 pickups, but then you pretty much have a Casino or Sheraton.

I guess if you didn't select that lowered middle pickup much (maybe use it for a more muffled thumping sound) or even deactivated it, the guitar would still be killer and look awesome. Of course, then there would be no reason for the 3 pickup design in the first place.
