Being a big Oasis/Noel Gallagher fan, I've always liked these guitars. Noel and the rhythm guitarist in Oasis used these almost exclusively for the first few years, so I wanted to see what the fuss was about.

This guitar is exceptional. I did my homework on them before I decided to look for one, but for all the owners who had one I didn't find one negative review. The only problem was finding a good one that wasn't overpriced, as they do seem to be fetching some high prices recently.

I waited a while, but one came up on eBay during the week and I made the guy an offer and he accepted. Played it at its first gig last night, played it on every song (I usually take 3-4 guitars to a gig), and am honestly in love with it. Great condition for its age (32 years old). I have a custom shop 355 and a Trini Lopez Reissue, and although my 355 is my number one and the best guitar I have, this isn't too far off on par with my Trini Lopez. Truly great guitar, plays exceptionally well, and the Maxon pickups have their own fan group and I can see why.

Anyway, here it is. 1983 Matsumoku Epiphone Riviera in Wine Red.

Wow : congrats on a wonderful guitar!
How does those Maxon PUs sound compared to, let's say, Gibson Classic 57's?

Kylef - great looking Riviera. Great color and looks brand new. Congratulations. I looked on Sweetwater's website thinking that Epiphone still made these and I am sadly mistaken. You're giving me a bad case of GAS. :)

That's a really good looking guitar and it probably plays and sounds as good as a real Epiphone or Gibson.
I had an Aria 335 MIJ copy that was a nicer guitar than a real 72 Gibson 335 that I owned.
    Congrats! Enjoy!

Beautiful! I'm a hardcore fan of Uncle Matt's work - there are 4 Electras, 2 Westones, and an Aria in our collection. Nice score, enjoy it.

Yeah Noel and Paul Arthurs AKA Bonehead used those in Oasis.
in fact when Bonehead played a one-off with Beady eye, guess what guitar he was using.

A nostalgic sight, seeing Liam and Bonehead together on stage again.

Nice, I've got an 82 Matsumoku Westone. Does yours have a three-piece neck?

Gorgeous guitar! I didn't realize they played 80s Epis, now I'm going to keep an eye out for one.

Lovely guitar....Those Matsumoku Epiphones are wonderful.

I have two full body Emperors from the 80s when Japanese guitar making had achieved a high point. I am searching for one of the Matsumoku thin body Emperors but they are a rare beast.
