Tele-Meister
After a period of pining for (and creating budget for) I took the leap and bought a new Eastman T186MX.
I love the quality build and finish. When I had read about the craftsmanship of Eastman it didn't really register until I pulled this out of the case, put it on my leg, and started picking and bending. This is the "Classic" finish and it is also available in a "Goldburst" finish.
I had a hard time deciding on which finish to go with but I ultimately went with the darker finish since my Yamaha and Baja are both blondes.
This is an incredibly beautiful, well-made instrument. I have to wonder if I'll ever own any guitar nicer.
Solid wood binding:
Solid maple top:
Solid mahogany back and sides:
Grain detail on mahogany:
Neck is ebony:
Headstock:
This is a full 335 style body with a 16 inch lower bout. Instead of the traditional semi-hollow design, the only blocking in the body is beneath the bridge and tailpiece. I guess that makes it somewhere in-between a hollow body and a semi-hollow body (technically, still a semi-hollow body I guess)?
Currently, Eastman is rigging these out with Bareknuckle Boot Camp humbuckers (hand wound). I only got the guitar yesterday afternoon, so I haven't had much time to dial in various tones but that will be forthcoming.
The 2 previous best guitars in my arsenal are a Fender Baja Telecaster and a Yamaha LL16D acoustic. This is on a completely higher plane than those 2 (both of which I still love).
This has a 25 inch scale and a 1.75 inch nut width as well as 22 frets, so it is a different playing feel from my Baja. I am 6'3" inches tall and have fairly big hands but so far there is no place on the neck of this guitar where I feel bunched up or feel like I am running out of real estate.
