It has been forever since I've posted on here, but I just needed to pop in and share this with the only folks who would get it. I have searched for this Telecaster many years, and have been quite picky about both condition and price. Couple that with life sometimes getting in the way (more like me letting it ☺️) and this one became something of a Holy Grail.

Happy to say that I will search no more. Recently acquired this very near-mint 2011 American Vintage Reissue 1962 Custom Telecaster in black. I have a '99 Blonde American Standard Telecaster, and I am amazed at how differently this one feels, looks, and plays. I have AVRI offsets, so I am used to the radius and fret size, but this one has a different vibe.

Just picked it up from my tech who set it up for 11s, swapped for a six-saddle bridge and updated the wiring to a modern configuration.

Cheers y'all. Meet Dressy Bessie!

Beautiful guitar..I hate to be picky but why do your strings line up to the left on the bridge instead of in the middle? In fact the “b” string is so far left it covers the adjusting screw on that bridge.Am I missing something here?
.
Thanks! You're correct about the B string, it was out of the saddle slot, which I didn't notice during the fashion shoot, but once I was home and strumming it was corrected.

That said, the saddles are a bit offset to accommodate the string up through the body. This is basically a six-saddle approximation of the vintage three-saddle bridge, and the intonation screw prevents a centered look.

I have the same model and it's my number one. I love it more than my custom shop Nocaster (which is a fine guitar in it's own right)
Congrat and enjoy the best guitar that Fender ever made!
Wow, awesome! And here I thought I couldn't love it more.

Beautiful. What pickups came in that Tuxedo gem?
They are the stock '62 custom reissues. I've never been disappointed with AVRI pickups, and these are no exception. They somehow sound even more "Tele" than my other Tele. I did have the switch updated to the modern configuration, instead of the "dark" option.

Your '62 Custom is spectacular! What a great find of this impeccable instrument.

Here is my "Holy Grail" Tele. It is in good shape, but has seen lots of normal wear from playing. It is not a showroom piece, but it has that classic mojo of a well made Telecaster. I, too, looked for over ten years to find this, eventually it turned up from a guy in Rhode Island listed on Reverb.com. It was a grand less than retail, which was my price range. I got the entire works, the original Fender case, case candy, ash tray, and a great sounding guitar.

The seller had it set up as described in his advert, with a "4 Way switch with volume knob in the front for swells. Comes with the brass saddles, ashtray cover, and case candy, as seen in the pictures. The bridge pickup is a Lollar "52". The neck pickup is an APC Model T300N - 'This is the pickup award winning country artist Brad Paisley uses on his Tele's in the neck position. Full and rich tone, noiseless, highest output of any Tele neck pickups, and responds to your touch.'" The Tele sounded great as shipped with a more modern sound, and switching and wiring setup. But it was not the original '62 sound I had been chasing.

I wanted the stock '62 Custom, so I took out the worthy upgrades he had installed and put back the correct components to make it as "stock" as possible. I ordered the '62 Custom set of pickups from Fender. I got a reproduction of the original three-way wiring harness, pots, plate and knobs, etc. from a wonderful outfit in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sigler Music. They were great to work with, and the excellent harness assembly was reasonably priced.

It is a close approximation to the stock reissue. The only goal I had with this instrument is to achieve the '62 Custom sound, and I think I am there with it. The added bonus is that it is the sublime and lovable Surf Green. It is the Queen of my "Surfer Girl Collection" of my Fender Surf Green guitars. I should note that the Surf Green on this instrument is aged from the "original" Surf Green with a yellow cast to it. These guitars will all eventually age to a pale yellow green.

This is the guitar that would be in my hand should some proverbial disaster strike our home.

Beautiful, surf green is an amazing color. I played a SG AVRI JM many years ago that was quite a looker. Kudos to you for returning it to '62 spec. I did make a few changes, with the bridge and modern wiring, but the voicing and character is all there. Top notch stuff. Haven't touched another electric since I got it, and likely won't for a while.

God forbid disaster strike, but I would also manage to grab mine, and the Beatles in Mono box set.

@dreamingtele That sonic blue is awesome! Are these CIJ and AVRI? If so, how do they compare, I’ve always been curious about them.

the Daphne Blue is MIJ, the Sunburst is a 2004 AVRI..

It took me a long time to find a MIJ that sets up the same with the AVRI.. same action, same relief, same everything. IMHO the quality is bang on with the MIJ's.. they're very good.. each one of them.. however, since no two guitars are the same with regards to how they're built and geometry, I wanted a 2nd 62ri that plays, feels and sets up the same way as the AVRI..

I wanted these two to be same in that area, but sound different. I've put AV64 pickups on the Daphne Blue as I felt it naturally sounded a little bit more feisty than the cleaner, chimey-er and sweeter AVRI62.. also changed to Brass saddles on the MIJ since I want a bit more warmer tone to compliment the AV64's

Also, the MIJ has a more rounded neck than the AVRI62 which is great.

here's the neck comparison
