I won this at a local auction Monday and picked it up today. It's a reissue Danelectro U2 made between '98-'01 according to various sources on the Internet.

I tried it out briefly and acoustically at the auction viewing at the weekend and was surprised at how loud it sounded unplugged. It needed a setup but I could tell it was a decent guitar.

Now I've cleaned it, it's in almost mint condition. No chips or scratches, no fret wear, all electronics are working perfectly and the protective plastic is still on the pick guard and back plate.

I'm surprised at how good this guitar feels and sounds, especially for the price.

    Hi.

    Cool.

It’s funny, how things work or don’t work aesthetically. That colour / paintwork is not a million miles from antigua, yet it looks so right here (for me).*

Some folks can't get past the 'chain store' vibe- hence the un-used condition of the instrument.
Plug into your favourite amp and turn everything UP. Play something filthy......

Awesome! You can play ANYTHING you like with this guitar- clean or dirty, Sounds great!

Lightweight, really comfy neck, 25" FB, big frets - excellent player
Steady giging with mine since about '98!

The first reissues are something special (although I like all of them). I can’t think of any company that did a better job of bringing something retro back without screwing it up. I had that guitar in “Cool Copper” and it bugs the heck out of me that I didn’t hang on to it.

Nice. I like the colour of yours. The only thing I've noticed wrong with mine is the metal bridge is curved as it looks like the string pressure has collapsed it over the years. Have you had the same issue on yours?

It's not a massive problem, but there's zero radius in the bridge so doesn't match the fretboard radius. I was thinking either try to straighten it somehow, or file the radius into the rosewood saddle, or leave it as it is as it would be good for slide!

It sounds great so far. I always imagined these type of pickups would sound very thin and cheap, like what you used to get in budget Strat copies (I had a Hohner Rockwood once like that). However, I was wrong. They sound great. The neck pickup sounds very full, the bridge is more trebly and spiky as expected, but in a good way with character and both together are in series so a very fat humbucker type sound. It's surprisingly versatile.

The above is an Allparts replacement. It fits on the stock screws. Awkward and fiddly to initially set up, but patience has a reward of its own. Intonable and possible to set the radius, if need be.

The Evets Danelectros ( ours ) are in a class of their own. If you haven't already, have some woodglue to hand when you change the strings to sort the loose ferrules out before you lose one.

My bridge definitely dips down a bit in the middle, but so far no issues with action/playability/buzz, so I just leave all alone.
It's a really fun guitar to play.

I know when I bought mine when the 'new Danelectro' Co. came out with the reissues ( late '90's), in all the cool colors, I thought to myself,

" These look fun, and are cheap; I'll get one but probably not gonna play it much- it's just a toy..." Wrong!

Nice axe! I have that model in Nifty Aqua. I put a replacement bridge on it (SAFETY TIP: USE THE ORIGINAL SCREWS, NOT THE SLIGHTLY LONGER ONES THAT MAY BE INCLUDED WITH REPLACEMENT PARTS). Almost new looking, except the pickguard is yellow, and a couple of reverse dents on the back from bridge screw mishap.
