I admired Clapton's "Crash 1" strat ever since I saw it in concert videos in the late 90's.

Last weekend I did a search online in Guitar Center for used Fender Strats, and sorted low to hi. Lo and behold, a Crash 1 replica was available at the Daytona Beach GC at a very good price...for a stock MIM strat. The pics looked great, and it was described as being in excellent condition. So I took a chance and purchased it, having it shipped to my local GC...just in case I wanted to return it immediately.

I picked it up last night...and it is staying with me!

It appears to have started life as a 2018 Classic 50's MIM Strat, with a 7.25" radius neck. Whoever did the artwork did incredibly well, IMHO. They also upgraded the harness assembly with a 920D, which I have used in past builds and really like.

    Here are some pics:

Very cool. I almost bought one when they first came out and they were not expensive at the time. I have searched a few times in the last year without results. Try to find one now!

Good story and a great find. From GC no less! You've got a very unique hand crafted (painted) guitar there. Enjoy.

Are you sure that is not a factory finish?

Ed Sheeran plays one of those now, I bet the value is rising.

If that's not a factory finish, whoever did it needs to start a business. That's a good looking guitar.

It is definitely not a factory finish...but whoever did it knows their stuff! It would be great if someone on the board recognizes the work and could fill us in on the artist.

Thanks! Pickups sound great, and I am surprised how well I'm getting along with the smaller radius! Normally I prefer strat/teles with a 9.5" radius.

If I had spent all that time executing that perfect paint job, then discovered that there was a Fender model of that exact guitar... D'OH!!!

    It has the vintage radius?
The hard part of replicating that paint job is the orange part which is a bit of faded streaking or burst style...

Yep. 7.25". As I mentioned, I'm pretty sure it started as a 2018 Classic 50's.

I love that Crash series. I did a replica of the Crash 3 guitar. Wish I'd kept it.

Yep. I think the original owner just substituted the original MIM plate with the Corona for some reason.

Well, it's both an excellent job and a ripoff. I realize that mine is a minority view here (though not according to copyright law) and it is that the artist holds rights to his images and since they are not yet in the public domain, they are not open to free use. Sure, it's a sincere tribute and a fan testimonial, but these creators make their living producing these images. The refinisher should at least have asked first.
