With some gear to trade in, I headed to the local guitar emporium. After plenty of research, I was going to get a Baja tele - looked like it ticked most of the boxes on my wish list, but I hadn't actually played one.

They had a great selection, one used, and eight or nine new ones - so while they evaluated my trade-in gear, I started demoing the bajas -

They handed me a slip of paper with the trade in allowance, and it was quite a bit more than I had planned - so I widened my search a bit. The American Professional had a feature set that I liked, a better case, and already had the compensated brass saddles and bone nut that I had been planning on upgrading on the Baja.

The second that I plugged in the Mystic Seafoam beauty, I knew that it was "the one" - sweet player, wonderful tone, nicely dressed frets - looked good, felt great, played wonderfully.

Two weeks in, and a pro set up (and flipping the control plate) and I remain convinced that I've made the right decision for me. I'm inspired to play, enjoy the guitar immensely, and haven't a complaint in the world!

Performing the first string change, I managed to bury at least 1/2 an inch of the high E in my ring finger - I bled everywhere, and had to make a couple of amends for the language that I used...but now the guitar has a story and a name: Cujo

That's a cool story. Thanks for sharing.
These American Professional Teles sure are nice.
I've tried several and been impressed with all of them.
Wonder if the wife will allow me to buy one?
What does Mystic Seafoam Green look like?
Perhaps showing her a picture of yours will help.

That guitar is on my radar :) Although I already have a 50s Baja and I'm not sure it will be that much of an improvement over the Baja... But logic does not always have its place when dealing with guitars :)

Do the Fender 3-saddle bridge intonate well after the 12th fret when playing chords?

these pics were on the dealer website, and I copied them before I purchased the guitar. These, obviously, are before the plate flip.

Jgmouton, I haven't had any intonation issues - the compensated saddles seem to do the job - but I have to be honest, I don't do a boatload of chording above the 12th, save for some partials and double-stops.

I have a 2017 Am Pro, ash body in butterscotch with a maple neck. She has displaced my Cabronita with TV jones pups as my number one. Wonderful guitar, congratulations :)

Graybeard - Look at it like Pheasant hunters do, until your shotgun is "blooded" it feels strange and unfamiliar, afterward it's like an old friend. (Or so that train of thought goes). Maybe it will play just that much better now!
