You know, this is what I was thinking. Wondered why no one else had suggested it. I'll give a definite thumbs-up to the ventilator and gloves.I disagree with everyone. Just dampen a paper towel with acetone or lacquer thinner and rub it off. I sometimes mix in some carnauba wax if I'm just redistributing the lacquer and not trying to take it all off.
Make the paper towel truly wet, but with no drips, if you want to take it all off, and change out the towels frequently for fresh ones.
Dampen lightly and wait for the solvent to partially dry (ten seconds or more) before rubbing if you want a more subtle result. Don't change paper towels, or at least don't change them often, as you go. Wear gloves, have good ventilation and lighting, and use a respirator if you feel like it.
