Despite my being in a "I have to sell" phase - I picked up and interesting guitar last weekend. I originally referred o it here http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaster-discussion-forum/420171-opinions-american-vintage-52-black-gold.html

2004 FSR American Vintage 52 Tele (in Black and Gold).

Its been played but not abused and was listed at a very reasonable price by the original owner. It has a CS Broadcaster Bridge and a CS Twisted Tele in the neck (cloth wire) with the vintage wiring scheme. The gold parts have faded a bit so it doesn't seem as 'bling or GOLD!' as some of the pictures I have seen. The owner described the neck as thin, but its not really (Fender says "U" and I believe them). It is not listed as a re-issue, probably because of the pickups, but it seems to have all of the re-issue specs from that period of AVRI 52's.

Anyway - its a fine player and sounds better than the Tele I just sold.

Congrats.. I like this one so much more than the shiny one you posted last week.. Is that a solid body? Fender made some chambered 52's back then.. Also FSR but they were Red.

Fine guitar! I like how the gold is starting to wear off the hardware.

I've seen those before, the ones I have seen were all 52RI's with different cosmetics. I'm sure that is what this is, as the other ones are FSR's from 04 as I think they were only one year. I saw a thread on here recently, could be the one you posted, I doubt it... but could be. that was about this same guitar.

Thanks! I liking the worn (burnished) gold look. It compares well to all the shiny chrome running around my other guitars.

I am spending time getting used to the neck and the "old school" wiring, figuring out what kinds of sounds I can wring out of it - or it can wring out of me. Its currently pretty well set up with 11's and I am giving that a test ride as well, you can feel the difference after an hour of playing. I may go down to 10's at some point.

The one small negative so far is that it is kind of heavy. Kitchen scale at about 9 lbs (so definitely not chambered) but thats the cost of doing business I think.
