I just picked up this super-minty used ASAT Classic at a nearby store. Built on 6/4 this year, it's like brand new. Cherryburst, G&L Alnicos, maple board on a maple neck (so no skunk stripe), and it weighs 6.1 lbs!

I've never lived anywhere near a G&L dealer so I never had a chance to try one. I've read plenty of rave reviews, well I guess they're right... I own some pretty decent guitars but this one is on a whole different level. The back of this guitar makes my knees weak.

Very pretty guitar, the Cherryburst finish with that binding looks beautiful IMO. Congrats, and Happy New Guitar Day! :)

Pretty! I've always liked that single-bound look on both G&Ls and Fenders (American Deluxes/American Elites).

G&L's been using the separate fingerboards like that since 2004-2005 when they they stopped using the bi-cut neck (where the neck was sliced down the middle to insert the truss rod).

Beautiful! Excellent choice! How do you like the alnico as opposed to the MFDs. Any frame of reference on that?

Sorry, I've never tried MFDs, but I am pretty familiar with alnico single coils and these are very good ones.

Thanks for the info, I'm absorbing everything I can find about G&Ls now. :)

Congratulations! I got mine a few weeks ago and love it. Getting it at the same time as an MIA Standard really highlights the differences between the two brands in terms of sounds.

Beautiful! G&L does some of the prettiest finishes!

I added a G&L ASAT Classic to my fleet yesterday. Great guitars.

What are your thoughts and impression in that respect?

What do you prefer in one or the other?

The G&L is much more versatile sound-wise, a little heavier, thicker neck, but just feels like it was put together with a bit more care. Can go from a full clean to nicely overdriven, almost fuzzed type of sound. Just more dimension in the tone I guess. Surprisingly the most versatile guitar I've owned. Sounds good right away through tube amps, solid state or line 6 pods / plug in's. The MIA Tele sounds like a tele should, is a bit cleaner sounding, comfortable, but doesn't quite inspire me like the ASAT does.
