Picked this one up the other day with the intention of gutting it and replacing the neck. I've just always wanted a double bound, burst Tele. After getting it home and playing it I've decided aside from a possible pickup swap, it's staying as-is. Looks, feels and sounds great. The stock pickups actually do sound pretty good, very 60's and twangy, but I do have a set of Keystones without a home, and think they would only make an already great guitar even better!

Excellent pictures, nice place you have to play guitar!

My CVC stays stock after three years, maybe someday I'll replace the saddles with something more substantial but otherwise is great as is.

    Congrats!

It's a beauty. Just wish they had thicker necks. Dig that Ween poster!

Nice. I have one just like it. I added a bone nut and brass saddles to mine (as well as another screw to the pickguard on the bass side..looked weird to me without it.) and changed out the bridge pickup for a Tonerider because I wanted something a bit hotter, but the neck pickup sounded so good I left it alone.

These guitars totally live up to the hype.

How thick do these stock necks measure?

I got lucky and scored a loaded body with Texas Specials. I have a V neck still waiting to go on it.

If I remember correct, the neck on mine measures something like 0.082" at the first fret. I already swapped it out with a chunkier Claaisc 50's maple neck.

EDIT: I just measured the CVC neck and it measures 0.79" at the first fret and 0.87" at the 12th fret.

Thanks for those measurements. I have the VB CV50 and for comparison here is what I measure it's neck to be:

.852 inches neck thickness at first fret
    .914 at 12th fret

I can't say I will be swapping out the neck on mine, but I just put some 10-46 Elixirs on it and loaded it with some Tonerider Hot Classics. It has honestly made a world of difference to this guitar. Sounds and feels so much better! I will likely finish the job with an electrosocket and some better electronics further down the track, but for now it's pretty much where I want it.

Dropped some Keystones into the CVC. They're great sounding pickups, but not really my cup of tea. Crystal clear and chimey, almost Strat-like, but a touch too "polite" for my taste. Going to put some Fender OV's in and call it a day. Never had the OV's disappoint.

I got to try a 2018 CVC custom yesterday and I still liked the stock neck despite it having a slimmer profile compared to my VB. I'm assuming it had Indian Laurel fretboard although it did not look like others that I have seen where it is instantly visible. The edges felt a bit rounded as well, so it made for a comfortable neck. The action and setup were dialed in very nicely.

I did find a couple of issues that I wanted to ask you guys about. The shop had a cable with a fairly wide heavy duty 1/4" plug on the end that apparently wouldn't sit properly in the socket as it actually fell out a couple of times as I was trying it.

Also the neck pickup was almost flush with the pickguard. I know on my VB CV50 I ended up adding springs in addition to the sponges they had mounting the neck pickup so I could adjust it up to the proper height, so I don't know if this was the same issue. At any rate it left the sound unbalanced to my ear when switching through positions with the neck pickup not being able to fully do it's job.

Finally I wanted to ask about the sunburst finish. I don't remember on older CVCs that I tried years ago having this look, but this 2018 bordered on what Mark Agnesi (YouTube Guitar of the Day) used to refer to as a clown burst or target burst like you would see on late 60's Fenders. I'm not really seeing that in the pics posted in this thread, so was wondering what you guys see in person. Thanks.

The Gibson is gorgeous. Is that a J-15 and a D-18?
