    Hello all!

I've "played" nothing but cowboy chords for 25 years until about a month ago when I bought new electrics for myself and my son to have something to work on and spend time doing together. He's 12 and was talked into an Ibanez by his guitar teacher (we found him a really nice S521-BBS on reverb). I decided I'd like to try all of what I think of as "the big three" classic guitars - Tele, Strat and Les Paul and ended up starting with a Strat (I found a used 2017 MIM Plus Top Fender Strat in Tobacco Sunburst on Craigslist for $450 in pretty much mint condition).

We've been having a great time, so much so that I took the plunge and bought my first Tele after finding one I loved the look of - a 2018 special run MIM Standard Plus Top in Aged Cherry Burst. It arrived yesterday and I've gotta say I'm REALLY digging this thing (with the exception of the damned blade switch cap falling off all the time!).

I have a few upgrades I think I'm going to do including pups (Bootstrap Pretzels), locking tuners (Hipshot), maybe the electronics (920 4 way or maybe Obsidian wire) and swapping the bridge for a brass / compensated 3 saddle version(Gotoh? Can't decide if I like the ashtray, semi-ashtray or flat ones but I don't love the off brand engraving on many of them).

Anyway, I read the forums here quite a bit to try to get educated before my purchase and I truly appreciate the depth of knowledge offered here - it was invaluable to me! Thanks!

Here's my Strat and Tele, as well as a shot of our "wall of groove" (taken before the Tele arrived)...

Welcome! Nice guitars! I like strats for the different tone options and have a couple. But, I always drift back to my teles because I find them more comfortable to play.

Can't go wrong with those Seagulls either. My six string S6 was stolen in 2001 so I bought a 1994 second-hand S12 and replaced the nut so I could make it a six string.

Indeed, thanks! And along those (GAS) lines, I just saw that Epiphone may be updating their headstocks to a more traditional "Gibson-esque" shape soon, so maybe it will be time to pull the trigger on a "LP" type guitar to see what those are all about!

Love the finish on those 2 Fenders.
My switch cap falls off too. Just put some paper in the hole.
Is that Ibanez fairly light? I need a lightweight guitar to ease my aching bones.

    Welcome.

Yeah, we need another proponent of the slab guitars with some flair. Sometimes we get a bit too much workmanlike here.

Tiny bit of super glue on the switch shaft. Let it dry! Then put the cap on. Do not glue the cap to the shaft...

    Double stick tape works, too.

I always thought of it as the Big Four: Strat, Tele, Les Paul, and 335.

Then I got here and learned that I needed to add Gretsch to the mix. Welcome to the rabbit hole!

Yup, the Ibanez is CRAZY light and quite nice! I'm not in love with the pups but everything else is very well done...
