Here is the Gretsch G6120T-55GE Vintage Select 1955 Chet Atkins I bought last night along with an American Vintage II 1951 Telecaster. I really love the Gretsch but have never owned one of their professional models. Not sure what to expect except I hope it’s good. I bought the AVII Tele as a backup in case I’m not getting the sounds out of it I want but if I can’t Sweetwater has a great return policy. It was between this and the Gretsch Brian Setzer 59 Smoke. I tend to like single coils so I went with this one. I love the western motif of the guitar. Here are the pics Sweetwater sends out of the guitar when you buy it.

Gorgeous. I've been craving a Gretsch so badly, because I'm in an "early-Beatles" phase.

You're a madman for posting two "NGDs" in two different forums!!! Post that s#!& in a single thread, homie!!!! Those kinds of congrats are exponential.

I love my '51 RI. I own all four models/years, and I posted a thread not long ago about how I think, completely subjectively, that it might be the best of all of them. You're going to love it.

I’ve only ever had an Electromatic Gretsch. Never one from their Professional Line. I’m sure hoping I like it as it has now become the biggest guitar purchase I have ever made and the Tele wasn’t cheap either. I got some money from my brother for my share of my mom’s house and figured I blow a little bit of it. He still owes me another half but all the rest is going into savings.

Congrats on the windfall. I'm sorry about your mom. Mine's still kicking (and chain-smoking), but the only thing she'll leave me with is an over-leveraged house and a complicated relationship. Save the rest. You're going to need a new roof, or a sewer line repair eventually (or maybe a down payment), and it'll be nice to have.

I can't wait to hear about the Gretsch. I know the '51 well; again, I think that you'll be happy. It'll probably need a truss rod adjustment before it plays as well as a custom shop. But play as well as a custom shop it will.

The top shelf Gretsch offerings are really just that. Top shelf. I have a G6129T-59 from the Vintage Select series. It’s absolutely PERFECT. In every respect. Worth every penny I paid for it. Congratulations.

All the rest will definitely be going into savings.

Congrats! I'm jealous.

When I got some money from mom's house I went shopping, too, for a guitar. I almost came home with a Gretsch, a Duo Jet '58 RI.

Then after playing a bunch, I bought the Parallel Universe II Telecaster Magico. It's a thinline with gold foils.
