Hi guys, i guess i can now say i'm officially in the Telecaster club..

Picked this Arctic White Tele up for just over £100 brand new, and i'm very impressed with it. I had read all the praise for these, and i was on a budget so thought i would try it, could always return if i wasn't impressed.
But, it's ace, especially for the low price.
Finish is flawless, it's set up pretty much spot and it was even in tune...

I've played countless guitars over the years (some good, some bad, some very bad..) and this one is a keeper.
The bridge pick up is ace, lots of twang and snarl through my Blackstar amp, the neck is just ok though - a bit muddy but i might look at changing that at some point.

Although its more pale banana yellow than white, but i like it all the same.
    Thanks for reading!

I'm a great admirer of white guitars...Even those that called white but don't quite pull it off. This one's a beaut and one to be proud of for sure! Welcome and glad to have you aboard... :D

Thanks guys. I've been lucky enough to have a free day today, so i've been playing the strings off it :D

I still can't believe the value for money, might have to buy another to tinker with and leave this one standard.... Although i am eyeing up the Cabronita - That's a real lovely looking thing..

Nice look on your guitar! Congratulations!
I have two Affinity's myself, and they are great. They sound and ARE different from the more expensive models, but they are good guitars. If I could only afford ONE low cost guitar, this would be the one... it is a good choice!
I like the arctic white and the lake placid blue best (I should buy one of those...).

If it'd be mine, I'd switch the pickuard for black one asap. ;)

I might do that, good idea!
It's been a few months now since i first got this guitar, and i'm still smitten with it. I play it at least as much my others (probably more) and i've really been bitten by the Tele bug..
I keep eyeing up Fender Standard's (The Mexican ones), with maybe a plan to keep the Fender stock and mod the hell out of the Squire.
There isn't anywhere local to me where i could try out the Fender though so although i know it will better than the Squire i don't know how much. Thats probably a good thing for my wallet!
    Thanks chaps,
    Nick

    Better than an Affinity Strat

What's so great about the Affinity Tele is that it doesn't have the Affinity Strat's useless tremolo which spoils that Guitar.
The Tele is just 2 planks of wood bolted together. Simple and damned effective.
Have you made any mods to it like the pickguard and neck pup?

No, no mods at all so far. I thought i would just play it loads before i started thinking about changing things. I still like the bridge pick up, the neck pick up is too woolly and muffled for my liking.

To be honest i've been thinking of putting in some Nocaster pickups - But then reality hits and i realise they will cost me 3/4's of what the guitar did! But i'm guessing it would improve it no end..?
Would also change the pots to 250k and beef up the wiring.

I'll have to give it some thought...

So...I've been giving it some thought, and i'm pretty tempted to get some Fender Nocaster pickups to put in it.
Only thing stopping me is the thought of putting £85 pick ups in a £120 guitar. It will sound better though right? I'll upgrade the wiring as well and put in some decent 250k pots, i love the way the guitar plays, so i'm guessing it might be worth laying out the extra money to improve the sound.
Anyone done similar and had good results?

Ok, so i thought about it and thought about it, got sick of thinking about it and then just ordered a set of Nocaster pickups... I can find nothing but praise for them on the net, and i guess if i decide at any point to buy a MIM Tele (or if i'm feeling flush an American made) then i can swap them over to that.
I've also ordered some cts 250k pots, some compensated brass saddles for the bubba mod and some decent wiring.
Still on the list is a black pick guard (Manic mailman i'm blaming you for planting that seed in my head!) and maybe a decent switch.

Hopefully i'll make a start on all the mods at the weekend, i'll report back with how i get on.

ps. I keep seeing the phrase 'orange drop', related to capacitors. Can anyone fill me in the info about this?
    Thanks, Nick
