So, last year I had my eye on a Devlin solid body guitar, and she was a real looker.
Problem was, the owner was real proud of it, and wanted far too much jingo for the guitar.

I had done some homework on Devlins, and apparently they were fairly high quality Korean-made guitars, and only made between 2006 and 2009 or so. They all retailed for somewhere around $500 or more. (And then the company dissolved, or merged into something else.)

Anyway, last week, I came across a Devlin in a pawn shop just a few towns away from here, and it really caught my eye. It is a double cutaway (much like certain Gibson guitars they used to make, or the Hamer DC that I have always fancied).

Problem is, they pawn shop wanted too much for it, and worst of all, the guitar was in really cruddy condition. Dirty, dusty, gunky, and in a state of neglect.

I went to visit the Devlin a few times, and managed to play it plugged in. The neck is true, the Grover tuners are great, and the guitar is mechanically sound. (It's just really, really filthy.)

So, long story short, I picked her up today, and got it, out the door, for a little over a hundred dollars American.

Here's how she looked this morning when I brought her home.
(Don't worry. I have had my tetanus shot.)

And so, voila, here she is after an entire afternoon of cleaning, fret polishing, waxing, adjusting, DeOxit spritzing, restringing, and just general all around love.

She's a real beauty, and she plays and sounds like a dream.

    Such a great double-cutaway!

And the case that came with it is really posh, and form-fitting!

She's literally got one little ding or chip on the body, and that's about it as far as flaws.

And the flame maple top is really eye-catching.

    Good score today!

    :)

I only have a couple of things to say about this.

    Score!

    Stop thief!

    I don't like you.

You're sexy.......I'm talking to the guitar.

What a nice looking guitar and if you like playing it.....home run. Very nice and congrats!

Very nice! I had a Devlin, very different model, and by the looks of it, not as nice quality. How's it playing now?

    It was an 'Imposter'

Oh my God, what a cool guitar!!
    :)

This one plays and sounds really nice.
The neck is smoothly finished, the fret ends are polished and beautiful, and the entire thing is a dream to play.

Loving this guitar, especially for what I have in it.

I also love that I found some new Slinky's today, and put them on there.

    They are 9.5's, Primo Slinky's.

    :)

Sparky2 - Cool story and a nice score you likely saved a great guitar from certain death.

Can you post a video I'm curious what she sounds like?

She goes 7 lbs, 13 ounces.

    25" scale length.

Looks very PRS-ish to me, especially with that 25" scale length. VERY NICE. How "chunky" is the neck? A little over a hundred dollars you say?......that's a steal!!!!!

This is really quick and rough.
(My bride was off to an AA meeting, and I am dog-sitting the new Boxer puppy. She just went down for a nap.)

You can hear the little microphone in this laptop computer clipping out, but you can discern the differences in tones from clean to dirty, in all three switch positions.

Volume and Tone set at 5.
