Ive been looking for an 80's MIJ for a while now, this one popped up at Coda Music in the UK. I can see what the fuss is all about these now, great mojo and feel for under £500!
Electronics have been upgraded to CTS, will probably change the pickups to AVRI 62's or Bare knuckle flat 50's, the originals are the weak point in these guitars:

    That is just gorgeous! Congrats!...

Absolutely LOVE my CIJ 62RI (same colour as yours) which is, to all intents & purposes, my "#1".

You'd be hard pressed to find an Esquire guard to fit without drilling holes or getting a custom on made. Been there, done that. As for pups, I ended up with an SD Jerry Donahue in the bridge and a Fender OV at the neck. Great combo.

It's on the slim side but unlike the AVRI 62's ive had this one starts out thin at the nut and gets a little fatter at the 12th fret.

Yes, these are definitely my favourite sounding Fender pickups, bright but full.

I love my '86 Sunburst, but would trade it for CAR in a heartbeat! Congrats, and enjoy!
