Picked this up in trade and really glad a did. I was on the fence because it looks great but still boring in a way, well at least to me. I’m also always after a fat neck.

The huge plus for me was the colour and the Abby red hots, I just love a little hotter Strat pickup. So it’s basically a 65 Strat with a bound neck, which was a factory option way back in 65. This was made in 2011 for the 2012 NAMM show. This colour only and I think very limited numbers produced.

Ok so boring, maybe not so much now after holding it in my hands. The is also pretty beefy being a 65 C shape I though a typical 60’s oval but it’s large. I think this will be my new favourite for awhile. The pickups just sound incredible. It’s also so clean for a 2011 closest classic series. Zero fret wear at all. The last few pics you can see the fretboard has been oiled, she was pretty dry. Also trimmed and shapes the fret binding nibs. 76D69F15-7861-4DFE-A6FA-D3253B4E50D2.jpeg F15F373F-DE6A-499A-91D3-60BD1983BC64.jpeg 9A6536B7-BA46-495F-A0E3-A8804801F4FA.jpeg 1F15027E-FB0F-41CB-84F5-032974AD5D18.jpeg F5D1F33F-0D7C-4D9B-A659-7C8166381282.jpeg F1CD7288-C83A-491A-9F4E-DADF1FF552C5.jpeg D1B13953-8AA4-47DA-B6D1-FFB50F2B8C89.jpeg 9F9F9E28-D510-4253-8B5E-7F1448DA0E78.jpeg E386F9E5-1FFC-4BCA-8E3D-546733007169.jpeg C271C378-B87C-4BA3-91E3-6CD4406C942F.jpeg

    Cool

I’m a sucker for dots and binding

    Holy heck! It’s got nibs!

I don’t believe it was ever an option although I know that they made a select few in 66 with bound necks(large headstock)one was given from fender to Ry Cooder (I could be wrong, I’ve just never seen an original bound small headstock neck)

Maybe getting rid of surplus jazzmaster necks?,early 66 jazzmasters had the dots and large headstock same as the strat

    Anyway, sweet axe!

Hey thanks guys! Yes fret nibs weird on a fender but still from my googling searches I guess it was a thing, mostly on jags and jazzmaster but the odd special order 65 Strat was available as a option.

This definitely changed my mind in slim 60’s neck profiles. It’s not huge at the first fret at 0.85 but it’s a full inch at the 12th fret. It actually starts to taper at the 5th and just has a really full rounded(lots of shoulder) feel.

I wanted to swap out the white on white pickguard or plastics but looking at actual vintage 65 strats this is just how they look. The plastics just didn’t fade like the pre cbs stuff. So I’ll leave it. I mean mint or tortoise could look sweet but I’ll save that look for my 62 Strat project

I didn't even know that Fender made a strat with a bound neck.

They also do the Eric Johnson strats that are bound.

The 65 shape is definitely where it’s at, just the perfect amount of shoulder (on most of em)

Yes the 65 neck is very new to me. I thought fender was just like a Gibson, 50’s had bigger necks and the 60’s slimmed down. It’s definitely the shoulders in this one that make it feel so good
