    Hi Guys and Gals,

I just purchased a 1986 MIA 52 Reissue Tele in BSB

I believe it's MIA based on the dimple below the serial number on the bridge, the spacing of the dots on the 12th fret, the decal on the neck is on top of the clear coat.

At first I thought the neck date was 6-13-86 but you could put a strong arguement forward that it's actually 6-13-84.

It's a great looking guitar for its age - no checking in the paint which I'm assuming is nitro on both the body or the neck, in fact apart from a small ding on the back, it looks new!

1986 was an interesting time for Fender, as far as I can tell they'd just setup the Corona plant and limited production was happening there while most guitars were still being built at Fuji-gen.

Playing the guitar is great, pickups sound fantastic, the neck is quite thin, it resonates well unplugged and I'm enjoying the getting to know you period :)

    Here's some pics

Nice guitar! I'd read it as "86" - the last digit being similar to the first digit in the number, which is more clearly a "6".

Very nice guitar! I don't know about the reissue Teles from that year, but I still have my 1986 MIA '62 Stratocaster reissue that I bought new back then, and it has been a great guitar. Enjoy!

Great looking early RI. How's the weight? I had an early one years ago, was so excited to get it, but it ended up being a >9lb. boat anchor, which was a major bummer.

Beautiful. Just looking at your photos takes me back to the years of the original Telecaster Discussion Page and when I lusted for a 52RI (and a tweed Bassman reissue to go with it) but could not afford either one.

    Very nice! Definitely 1986.

Some observations: Non-original, compensated brass saddles. 3-piece body, re-wired to modern.

Great guitar. My '93 52"RI is my favorite guitar. You will love this one. Nothing to change.

At 8 pounds 2 oz she's not a light weight, heading towards boat anchor territory though!

If it plays fine, I'd leave the compensated saddles on there, mate. But hang on to those original saddles if you ever decide to sell.

Looks awesome! I'm looking at picking up a pre-2012 one myself. Mine won't be a "closet queen," but I don't like damage. Looks like a super clean example for a 32 year old example! Off-topic question, but did you use a mirror lens to take at least the headstock shot? I couldn't help but notice the little ring shapes in the background! ;)

Best Tele I've ever owned weights 8lb 2oz, a good light heavyweight! I never found it to heavy on the shoulder while staying solidly in place when I needed it to. Nice looking guitar, have fun with your '86
