First year of production by Matsumoku, the legend of Japanese guitar builders! I live in Japan, so maybe stuff like this is a little easier to find for me, but I have never seen a 1976 Matsumoku built Aria ever! I know knock-off guitars are a little, ehhhh, but this thing is built like no other. There's some dings in the frets 1-5 like it fell on it's face at some point, perhaps that can be addressed. I paid 370 dollars for it, and that's the best sound 370 dollars I've ever spent. I always wanted a Tele, but I have too many guitars as it is. 3 Strats, a Flying V, an Explorer, a Martin, and a 7 string. Might sell something else, just because too me this is too many guitars. Here's some pics.. I don't know how much these Backaroos get mentioned around here, but if you ever see one, PLAY IT, and you'll probably be unable to let it stay in the store. You can really tell they put heart and soul into putting these together.

This model is the Aria Pro II TE-400BL. Something besides it being a '76 that is interesting is that the serial number starts with a letter. Apparently it was never documented as to why some Matsumoku guitars had a letter and others of the same model did not.

You should A/B it to a '76 Fender Tele!

I also have a few older Matsumoku built guitars, no teles though and they are amazingly well built and playing guitars.

    Well done,

    Wow, that is gorgeous.

The only thing I'd be leery of are those tuners... though I have very similar ones on my MIK squiers and they can be ok... the patina on the body and neck are terrific.

The color of the finish and neck and the aging on the hardware... you can't make a relic look that good! Awesome find!

Thanks guys, and yeah the finish has aged to a dream. I couldn't stop looking at it. I reckon a black pick guard would have a classier look but from what I can tell this is what came on it. Either that or it's very old.

Inspired by Don Rich's early Tele.
I have never seen a Japanese guitar with a late '50s Fender "halo" paint finish. Very nice.

Man, I've looked at the pics several times and each time that thing just gets more awsome. I want one!

None listed for sale on the internets, tho...

Really nice, even pre-dating the so-called Golden Age of the japanese knock-offs. More of a replica than copy in my book!

Very pretty...congratulations.Is it heavy like a typical 70s Fender or is this one reasonably light?

Leave it! Actually, it makes me want to try an off white pickguard on my 52 again.

I'll have to break out the scale and weigh it but it seems to be fairly light by all accounts.
