Welp, I've done it again. Was innocently perusing the TDPRI classifieds and found a body from a Jimmy Vaughan signature model in Candy Apple Red listed by Ringo (no, not that Ringo, our Ringo) and I messaged him right away. I haven't had a CAR Strat since I ordered an Yngwie model new back in the late 90s (and I sold it a year or so later because the neck was too big for my taste). This time, it'll be a tribute to Gilmour's red Strat. (I might as well, since I just did a Workmate tribute.)

    Anyway, a pic:

As it just so happened, a single-ply pickguard, a set of EMG SA's, and a short tremolo arm were all just lying around (what are the odds?), so a mock-up was quickly possible:

But any further progress on this one will have to wait until Warmoth opens its doors again. I'm out of necks.

And just for fun, here's the YJM I ordered new so long ago:

If the neck hadn't been so big, I'd still have it. And probably would have switched it over to Duncan YJM p'ups by now.

CAR is my all time favorite strat color. Back around 2000 or so, I bought a brand spanking new MIA ‘57 Reissue in CAR.

I loved that guitar. It sounded amazing and looked perfect. I also loved the V neck profile. But it played horribly.

Wasn’t really anything to be done about it. For me personally, there is no way to get a guitar with a 7.25” radius and vintage frets to play worth a damn. They all stink. It’s just not a good formula. Oh well. Someday I’ll get another CAR strat, and it will have a flatter board and real frets. It’ll be a keeper. I just know it!

    Love it.
Somehow I've never had a red Strat, which I've always liked.

I hear ya. I've had an 1989 '57 reissue for almost 25 years. Got it without a pickguard or electronics, so I put a set of Fat 50's in it. It's the only 7.25 guitar I've kept out of all the half dozen or so I've had. For some reason, this one plays pretty dang well. Not like my 10-16 compound necks, of course, but really good for what it is. It was refretted with taller (yet still skinny) frets sometime before I got it. Sure, I have to be extra careful how I bend a note, especially up high. But it's ironically one of my favorites.

Looks like a great project. I love CAR as well. I’ve got a 2014 American Deluxe Tele CAR, pearloid pickgaurd, and maple neck.
