One of the first lessons I learned gigging (almost 30 years ago now) was break your gear down fast and be cool to the rest of the bands on the bill. Last night, we drove 2 hours to play second at a dive bar. It's what punk bands do, ok Opening band of 20-somethings strolls in with drums in giant gig bags and proceeds to slowly unfurl close to $10,000 worth of beautiful new gear. Guitarist and bassist each has a spare. Drummer has a lovely new ludwig Bonham-style kit and vintage '60s cymbals. The crowd is huge already for the small space. And then they just wait.... And wait.... And then play an hour. And then break down slowly. And then just bail. Oh, and then the headliner had to borrow our bass head, guitar amp, and a cord. Lol! At least they were damn good and decent guys. Good to see things haven't changed. Thanks for reading. I'm just tired because I'm a grumpy old man who drove home at 3am. But at least you guys understand.
