In 1966, Pay phone was a nickel and a trolley ride was $0.10, we would go downtown and watch them drive piles to build the Superdome. Saints were playing in Tulane stadium and I watched Charlton Heston film a movie there during a game. Love Louisiana and all it's offerings.

Edit: It was later than I thought. I lived there in 1968. May through September. I was talking to my sister and she said we weren't there in '66 and it makes sense because the movie was filmed in 1968.

Nice! Hope you are having a great time. NYC has had a real rough year. Tip: the staten island ferry takes you pretty close to the Statue of Liberty and it’s free or just a couple dollars. Don’t bother getting off in Staten Island though. Trinity church near wall st is something to see with its 17 century graveyard next to the skyscrapers.

NYC is a mind-blower the first time you go - and I say that coming from Chicago.

    Have fun!

I’m really looking forward to going to New York again when this all calms down, and I’ve been angling to get a show at c-squat.

I’ve spent A LOT of time in nyc and i thought Chicago was impressive the three times I’ve been there.

I want to make it out to showman’s rest the next time I’m there.

My first time in Chicago when when i was trying to do the crusty traveler kid thing and we almost got caught in cubs rioting.

I've always wanted to go, and explore Long Island too. I've sworn that one of these days, this Florida boy is going to fly into JFK, and go to Coney Island just for a hot dog.

My favorite way to visit NYC is via binoculars from the Mt. Nimham fire tower in my hometown, it's around 60 miles north of Manhattan.

Enjoy New York. So much to see.
(I'm a history buff so I studied for months before I went and still barely made a dent).

Thanks we visited that church today and several others. Is this the one you're talking about?
Thanks for the tip about the ferry

Showman's Rest is worth a visit. It's actually in Forest Park (more dead residents than alive). I discovered Showman's Rest quite by accident. I used to ride my bike by there and would always see the elephants. One day, I finally stopped to investigate. Sad and beautiful.

Uh ... you're stretching it, man. But, like I said, I'd fly into NY just for food.
