I like to ask this question in different forums about once a year, to see what people are singing.

What worship songs did you add in the last year or two (whether the songs were old or new) that really connected for your congregation?

    Thanks. And Happy New Year!

We do White Flag, I like that as I get to use a dual-delay... I suppose the congregation likes it too ;)

Quite a simple lead line, but effective :D

    I suppose I do.

    Even So Come

    How Can It Be

    Broken Vessels

Texas Kyrie (by Jonathan Rundman; you can find this on youtube or on his website; I didn't want to like this one; our worship leader insisted and it's great)

Edited to correct name of writer: Jonathan Rundman.

Also: The recording has a country blues feel. Our approach to it is more bluesy and less country.

I'm loving the All Sons & Daughters stuff, and I like to do the "Your Glory/Nothing But the Blood" live version. Except I do it in B flat. I also dig "Great Are You Lord".

And the new Jesus Culture album is also wonderful. I did "Let It Echo" a couple weekends ago and it was well received. I've also done "Fierce" for the youth and they loved it.

It is so open and allowing for regional distinctions I think Good Good Father is the biggest breakout since How Great Is Our God

I want to put a plug into an unsung group; Red Mountain Church. We do "Love Me To The End" and have been thinking about doing a couple other of their songs.

    Cool backstory to this group.

Never heard of them. which, I suppose, means nothing. Tell us about them? Or post links to some recordings?

Hmm. I can't remember how I found them, but they are essentially a project group setting old and oft forgotten hymns to modern music. A previous album was all Gadsby hymnal songs. Because he was against using instruments in worship, the original melodies are either lost or unknown or of questionable accuracy.

I'm at work and so I can't go to their main band page, but this one looks like a decent enough introduction. I know their main page allows you to sample the songs and includes chord sheets. Pretty helpful.

Another organization that is doing something similar is called Indelible Grace. I think they are part of something called Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). Very similar idea, take old hymns and put them to modern music. I think its a historically valid exercise, since the old songs were often even older words put to more modern melodies.
