It's my understanding that the circuits and dimensions are pretty much the same with the older classic 30's and the newer ones.

The only difference is the weird "widows peak" looking emblem design on the new ones. I much prefer the look of the old ones.

My question is, has anyone ever changed the new design to look like the older ones? It looks like you could just peel the tweed back and cut the overhang from end to end and the replace the tweed

Yes, I agree this is probably more trouble than its worth, I was just curious

Lol yeah I know it's just a preference thing and I'm probably just over thinking it.

Wow! I didn't know all that was updated, I plan to do some light mods (speaker, changing a couple of cap values)

I was going to change out the stock tubes, but I checked and these come stock with a full set of JJ's?!?

This amp is rediculously nice for the price!

They really don't need any mods. I tried a few on mine and always ended going back to the stock setup. If you really want to change the tone then swap the speaker. That will make the biggest difference.

I love the Vintage 30. Put a Vintage 30 in my Peavey Classic 30. Hated it. Back to stock Blue Marvel. Sounds like it's made for the amp. Run Vintage 30 in my Orange cabinet along with the Classic 30.

Just bought the latest model, I absolutely love it! I now have a Blues Junior that seeks a new home...

On the old ones, too many guys were ripping off the pointy Peavey logo for a more vintage tweed look, so they redesigned it to force feed the Peavey logo right down your throat. I'd absolutely NEVER buy one of the new ones.

I always hated that huge pointy logo on the grillcloth. Good riddance. I like the new style.

I think they redesigned it because it you take the pointy Peavey logo off then these amps look like a Fender.

Has anyone tried a Texas heat in one of these lil guys? That's all I have lying around...I was thinking of picking up a used vintage 30 or something that might give it a little more low end thump.

    Any opinions?

Yes! The TH is great in the C30! Everything was better with it and better tubes.

I hear the best speakers for a Classic 30 are a Weber Blue Dog ceramic or Celestion G12H-30.

I'm warming up again to the dated, 80s pointy logo. I prefer the bottom one to the codpiece / cyclops.

To answer your Q, OP, no, I've never tried that.

I kind of dig the old pointy logo. I like the updates to the new amp though, those are some nice improvements. Would love to try one out.
