Well I blew the wad on a 2012 D1A in near perfect condition. I've never owned a mahogany backed guitar before but does this sing. Trying to decide whether to switch to light gauge strings but maybe I have to have a different approach with this. I wanted something different than my Martin and I guess I got it.
Now to start a love affair

Nice! In my limited experience, a good acoustic will eventually tell you how it wants to be played. Just try different strings, pick / fingers / slide / percussive etc., until you find out what kind of music it really wants to play.

I've always had a bias on hog back and sides acoustic.. I feel that rosewood gives off that metallic tone as opposed to mahogany that gives off a warm woody tone. Congrats on the ngd!

That’s a very nice guitar. I think it’d be plenty powerful with lights.

Mahogany will develop dry snap over the years that you will get with no other wood. It is worth the wait.

Congrats on a nice guitar. Love Collings acoustics and the D1A was among one of the best acoustics I've ever laid hands on.

Congratulations! I'm lucky enough to have acquired a C10 and an OM from Collings. They are the two guitars that have lasted through 13 years of guitar-go-round that I play all too frequently with my electrics.

Congrats! So far, every Collings I've had in my hands has been a wonderful instrument.

I seem to recall some sort of emphasis on seeing some actual pictures...c'mon now...

Congrats on the Collings! I think it will be a perfect complement to your Martin.

I'll try to post a pic but it's pretty much a plain dread naught, no bling. Mahogany back and sides with Adirondack top. I played a Martin D28 V that sounded pretty good too but since I already have a nice Martin, I thought this would be a good direction to go, and by the comments( thanks) I think I made a good decision

That's a beauty. You mentioned it's pretty much a plain dreadnaught, but man, that just looks classic.

Just not much for inlays, and I will admit I was drawn to the Martin D28V for it's decoration and sound too but the D41 I've used for years has it all, so like I said this is a new direction in sound and looks

    Collings makes a nice box.
But whether it's Them, Martin or any other company out there... I still struggle to get comfortable with a very light, whitish top.
Similar with necks on Tele's... but an acoustic... even more so.
It's just me, and, I know, it has nothing to do with sound, and it'll only darken with age, never lighten, so shut up and play it and wait....... (but I'm too old to do as much waitin' around as once was taken for granted!)......
If they made the same guitar, with a light -or even not that light-stained top, which would you prefer?

I'd prefer a slightly darkened or sunburst but this guitar came up used and I had to go for it. I'm not a big fan of the lighter colored tops either, I just tried to listen to it instead of look at it. You can get them aged but they cost a lot more, more than I have, not that this was cheap

It's a problem of mine- the darkened top issue. ...must come from me seeing some of my favorite players with already aged guitars, BITD. ! Bottom line you gots a sweet Collings (&I don't!)
Enjoy the sound. Play outdoors and by next year it'll be beige!?
Once I own an instrument, I'm immediately attached in most cases.
The way that baby plays and sounds.... I'd never notice the top!
