It's my first electric guitar. Got what looks like a good, unexpected deal on a Baja through one of my son's golf buddies. I like the way the neck feels. I see lots of people trading pickups, bridges, and all kinds of other things. I'm at a place where I think (not know) that I'd rather invest in some tools that could be used to enhance playability. Adjusting the neck, leveling frets, working the nut, I could use some guidance in what might be useful. I don't have the skills, but certainly am capable of plodding along as slowly as necessary to learn. And that in the long run those skills will prove useful.

I think I will be playing with a relatively light touch, mostly finger-style or hybrid, but not exclusively. So I want to eventually have a fairly low action.

Just to set some parameters, probably $500 budget.

    Congratulations on the new guitar.
The stew Mac website has nearly every tool a man could ask for to do guitar repair.
My favorite repair guru is Dan Erleweine. He is somehow connected with stew Mac and has numerous instructional videos on the internet.
Very little you can do to one that can’t be undone and you’ll learn a lot in the process.

    Congratulations!

    Photos are urgently required.

I wouldn't recommend developing such skills on a Baja. They are wonderful guitars and it would be a shame to mess it up. Get a beater and have all the fun in the world.

Small screwdriver to adjust saddle height should get you started ..if you think it needs to be changed.

Yeah, you can't just come in here and drop a bomb about a new guitar, then not give us pictures to lust over.
    Pics please!!!

Congrats. I recommend collecting a bunch of weirdo pedals just for fun.

I'll take some time thinking about that. Any suggestions on what you mean by a beater?

I think he's just saying that Baja's are really nice guitars, and as such, maybe not the best example to practice/learn modding skills on.

Perhaps some partscaster sold for cheap? Or a second hand Tele copy?

I believe it's an '08. Looks like it hasn't been played much. Came with the fender gig-bag. Gave $600 for it. Plays quite differently than my Alvarez-Yari. I have a little desktop amp while I learn to play it. Seems it's very easy to put too much pressure on the strings. I have to learn a lighter touch.
