After the success of my first build (seen here) I have embarked on a pair of basses.

    I'm building a 4 string ASAT-ish bass and a 5 string modified ASAT-ish bass.

Since the ASATs are pretty neck heavy I wanted to address that with the 5 string. The plan is to move the bridge, neck, and lower horn further towards the end of the bass, and use a short 3x2 headstock, making the overal length a few inches shorter. May end up looking strange. We'll see.

    4 string body.

oh, I'm a G&L fan and you got my attention.
I have an S500, a Legacy and an ASAT Blues Boy. A Friend had a L-2000 that I thought sounded amazing.
That wood looks awesome! Are you doing 6 bolt neck?

Yes, 6 neck screws. Haven't decided if I'm going to use threaded inserts or not yet.

Radiused on the router jig, sanded to 320 grit and buffed. No finish. No oil. No wax.

Almost seems a shame to send it to Ireland.

Where did you get that template for the 5 string? I've been wanting to build a 5 string Stingray myself, but I can't find a template for a 5 string headstock anywhere.

    Today's lesson:
Sandpaper gets dull, but it's cheap so just change it already.

4 and 5 string necks getting glued.
I hope I have enough clamps.

So today I built this universal neck pocket routing jig that I saw on Dave Myka's site ( http://www.mykaguitars.com/tools/neckpocketjig/ )
There are some refinements I'd like to work out, but hopefully you can see how it works.

Do you happen to have a PDF for the asat bass body you are willing to share?

That 5-string...terrific work on the body shape. It's so graceful. I love the half-offset thing it has going on.

    I'm following this one!
