I usually change them about every 3-4 gigs on my main gigging guitar. I usually bring one of my other 4 guitars to rehearsals so I may go a few months between changes on those. As soon as they start sounding dead, they're gone. I can't remember the last time I broke a string....maybe 25 years ago??? I use( D'addario 10's and 11's depending on the guitars (Gibson and Fenders). I've experimented with Gibson and Dean Marley lately and I can't say I've noticed a lot of difference in tone or longevity but I get a pretty good bulk deal on my D'addarios so I keep using them.
