Hey, not sure if this is the right forum to post this in but......I just put a new set of strings on my Tele about 2 or 3 days ago and they are already showing some discoloration in the higher strings. Nothing major, but definitely noticeable......the strings are Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's. I have played more than normal the past few days, but not by that much. Just wondering if this is normal or if I got a few dud strings or something.

Make sure you wash your hands before you play, and wipe your strings when you're done.

Alright guys, thanks for the help.
Also, just wondering while on the topic of strings, what kind of acoustic and electric string do you prefer to use??

Ive noticed the Ernie Ball strings make my thumb black quickly after I play them I dont use a pick.

I always use D'Addario they dont make my thumb and fingers turn black.

I've always used Ernie Ball Strings this first time I've read about dud set. I've the Super Slinky strings (.009) and reinforce version as well. Never had a problem.

Well thanks for the welcome there Gary.
The whole set wasn't a dud, but the high e n the b strings both seemed to turn sour fast.
And I've heard great things about the D'Addario acoustic strings.
    Once again, thanks everyone.

If you got a new guitar to you and you got it setup and playing nice but its still lacking somethin'....string it up with some D'adds' of your favorite guage.....they are great strings. I use them on both my acoustic and my electrics.....Good strings.

I would switch to the Reinforce Plain Strings (RPS) they will last a little longer.

    two reasons i use D'Addario:
    * they're consistent from set to set.
    * they're sealed airtight until you break the pack to put them on, thus no early corrosion.

i also like that they don't overpackage. brings out the tree-hugger in me.
