Speaking of QC, I did buy a Classic Vibe Jaguar a few months ago, and my first impressions suggest they are not fully there in the finishing department. Otherwise, it’s on par with the great Vintage Modified series. Having owned a VM JM, Jag, Mustang, Jag bass and Bass VI, and Strat and Tele CVs, there was a slight difference in finish quality and electronic wiring between the two lineups that was apparent. Fret work was usually good on both lineups. I still think my Jag is worth the 9.5” radius bridge alone, over the older VM, all things being equal.

Making a Starcaster is slightly more complicated than making a slab body Fender. My hopes are high, because that BIG BEAUTIFUL headstock will be wasted if the binding sucks :)

    Well.

I have spoken to a half dozen or more young would be musicians, fans of music and musicians who actually did not know Squier was captive to Fender. FMIC deliberately decided that when making certain Signature models for young stars who played Squier, that this specialty product say "Squier" and not Fender. I think this is a generational thing and seems more prevalent in Malaysia and etc., but I would not categorically say that they do know or even care if Squier is made by Fender.

I wonder what the china factory will do now....it isn't riskfree ditching partners for a few cent more.
Didn't epiphone experience something like that?

I see "Epiphone by Gibson" all the time.

    Do a Google Image search.

    That walnut Starcaster... whoa.

Saw Morrisey a few years back. 1 of his guitarists always had a Starcaster in his hands.

    I don't know.

My brother in law supervised the construction of a microchip factory in China and he noted some plants simply changing entirely what it was they manufactured, other places just closed up and still others were demolished and something else sprung up on the site - rapid changes; some would say chaos. The economy there has slowed down a lot - in some respects. Not in others.

Ponder on, in Oz we had the Chrysler by Chrysler as the top of the line Chrysler Valiant V8 model in the 70s. And that was not the marketing slogan, that WAS the name. And here was dumb ole me thinking it was Chrysler by Mitsubishi...
(Post script: by early 80s it was, Mitsubishi had bought out the ailing Chrysler business and plant in Oz).

As for Fenders, if it’s not made by the parent company but by a third party contracting company, it’s not a Fender IMO.
    Or Squier by Squier :)

Here's the headstock shots from the Fender Site, where they're listed under New! Summer NAMM. I notice that for $350 the Indonesian CV50's BSB has a walnut truss rod plug rather than the prior black plastic plugs on the Chinese CV50's BSB. Small thing, but it doesn't seem like they're skimping ...

The only guitar i regret selling (out of 25?) is the indonesian custom 2. Had a very nice vintage modefied 70's strat. These where all made in indonesia.
The problem is that the MIC classic vibe been "not just good, but good enough" ( crustys seal of approval). That is better than a lot of fenders more expensive offerings.

I'm in the same camp as everyone else when it comes to buying a MIC with a fender decal. My light ash from korea sucked.

I already have some and planning to get another, so I don't have a problem with that.

    Talking Mustangs though, not teles.
