Looks like the new band is going to work out. The first gig went great and now we're looking at adding some new tunes.

Our female singer is younger than us guys and while she totally digs classic rock she wants to bring in some modern tunes.

Our male singer is pretty open minded to anything that isn't typical or traditional.

I'd love to hear some suggestions for this 6 member band. Guitar, bass, drums, keys and two vocals who both play some acoustic.

We're doing some Gwen Stefani, Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, etc

Wouldn't it be better if the band came up with the songs?

Depending on her vocal range, some Susan Tedeschi would be cool.

This would be considered " traditional ", but it sure would be cool to hear live.

I remember a small open mic with an awesome duet version of Pancho and Lefty.
It's one of those songs that needs both a little grit and a little sweetness.

Outstanding duet! One of my all-time favorites.

I thought there was a union requirement that all cover bands with a female singer have to have "Me And Bobby McGee" and "Black Velvet" in the set list?

We were all asked to submit song suggestions and I don't want to come up with nothing. Besides, it would be cool to have a hand in it.

Some good suggestions here. I like that Gone gone gone tune.

Not doing Bobby McGee or Black velvet.

Sorry, I can't help you. My radio is still stuck on classic rock, because everything after that was so bad.

"Crown of Creation" era Jefferson Airplane. Greasy Heart sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday.

Florence and the Machine (They are really taking off right now.) Songs: "Dog Days Are Over" and "You Got The Love"

Paramore. "Misery Business". Super high energy with a brilliant chorus. It was a massive alternative hit.

Congrats on your band coming together!

Edit: Whoops, sorry. I thought you said you were looking for modern female fronted songs. But you should still check these out.

Sounds pretty cool and a similar set up to the band I play with now and then.

One that always works pretty well though it might sound an odd suggestion at first Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet done funky grungy style. You can bounce the vocals a bit which is fun.

    Beatles Oh Darlin rips

A local gal Vanessa Amarossi, This is Who I Am, slightly de technoed and roughed up. Check, Perfect too and for the fun of it have a listen on YT to her version of Take Another Piece of my Heart.

I always rather like Bobbie McGee and a personal fave, Something to Talk About.

Umm, I'll stop now  you got me started....

"Modern" is a relative term around here, I suppose.

I always liked the song "Candy" by Iggy Pop and Kate Pierson from the B52's

    Christina Aguilera - Beautiful
Pink - Glitter In the Air
Beyoncé - Single Ladies (might be a challenge to arrange, but guaranteed to get women dancing if you pull it off)
    Alicia Keys - Fallin'
