Like many of you, we've been working at home these days. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to serve so many great musicians & we are humbled by the support of the guitarist community.

We believe in giving back & are a proud supporter of these online guitar forums. We also are proud to support the great charity Guitars for Vets. Keep an eye out for our charity auctions over on eBay. 100% of the proceeds goes to Guitars for Vets.

We also will have a few contests this year to give away free sets here on the forums. We have so much fun and success doing it last year, we just can't wait to do it again.

Our pickups are made one at time by hand right here in the USA. We are in rural area outside of San Diego and everyone out here has a barn or workshop on their property. In these abnormal times, we've been able to put the extra space to good use. Hopefully we are nearing the end of this horrible pandemic but we hope everyone out there will take good care of themselves until this nasty chapter is behind us.

We always have a half dozen designs in the works. Some make it to market, while others come up short. Our rule is simple, if we wouldn't use it in our guitars, then we won't offer it to our customers. Most designs take a few years to dial in just right & spend much time in the hands of working pros so we can get proper feedback from guys that rely on top-notch tone to make their living.

We will post some information below about new products. Check out our behind the scenes video.

If you've ever seen one of the Virgil Arlo Pickups review, then you know how the pros feel about him. If you've played a set of his pickups, then you know the answer to the question "are Virgil Arlo Pickups worth it?". The Virgil Arlo Pickups price has really shot up since he retired from winding. The Virgil Arlo 1954 price has increased along with the Virgil Arlo 59 set and the Virgil Arlo 52 set. The prices of his one-off sets like HSS, P90's and P.A.F. Tele's also taken off.

We don't do many "one-offs" but when a legendary luthier or guitarist asks for something special, we try to accommodate whenever possible. Legendary Luthier Stephen Marchione like to direct mount Humbuckers in many of his designs.

This requires making a 12 screw Humbucker. 2 screw are longer than the other 10 and you use these two screws to mount the humbucker to the body. This set requires us to modify our P.A.F. backplate. You can see a picture of this modification below.

The new product we are most excited about is not one of our designs. We are very humbled to announce that we will be making the Virgil Arlo Pickups Collection in 2021. We will be using the same tools and materials that the winder known as Virgil Arlo used in prior to retirement. The part supply will probably to last 6 months to a year so get them while you can.

The Virgil Arlo collection of pickups are physically and sonically identical to the original "White Label" Virgil Arlo Pickups. Our packaging is a little different and we are using a Tan Label.

Mr. Arlo's original's were always and signed and dated. The new Virgil Arlo Collection from Tone Specific are labeled with the model number and "Tone Spec" branding.

    Virgil Arlo 1952 Telecaster Review.

"What happened to Virgil Arlo?" has been a common question lately. He struggled physically for awhile & had been considering walking away for awhile. A lot of work went into making the Virgil Arlo Tele Pickups, Virgil Arlo 1959 Pickups & Virgil Arlo 1954 Strat Pickups. Years of 6 day work weeks got to be too much and it was just time for him to hang it up. He's grateful for all of the support he's received over the years from his customers & happy to know his pickups will bring a lifetime of you to his customers.

Virgil Arlo 1952 Tele Pickups are the secret weapon of many professional guitarists. They swear by them & most would agree that the Virgil Arlo 1952's are the best Telecaster pickups ever made. Any time one of these pros adds a new or vintage guitar to their stable of working instruments, this is the first upgrade they perform. Its pretty well known among session players, touring guitarists & recording engineers that these amazing pickups are instruments themselves & take any guitar to the next level.

If you consider yourself to be a serious guitarist or a serious connoisseur of tone, then these pickups are an absolute must. Any decent guitarist knows the circuitry of your amplifier actually starts in your guitar, precisely at the location of your pickups. Anything less than the best only subtracts from the overall dynamics, response and quality of your tone.

The winder known as "Virgil Arlo" has been responsible for crafting pickups that are considered by many to be superior to vintage pickups. They are an irreplaceable part of so many elite musicians signal chain. When Mr. Arlo retired from winding pickups back in 2019, it left a huge void in the industry. Prices for used sets of his Tele skyrocketed to almost $2,000.

There is a small supply of old Virgil Arlo parts remaining. It's our great honor to lend our hands in continuing the great legacy of Virgil Arlo Pickups using these parts. Starting in January 2021, we have reached an agreement to make these amazing pickups until the limited supply of parts is depleted. We suspect the supply of parts will last between 6 and 12 months.

We've spared no expense in the building process of these gems. We've mastered the various Virgil Arlo techniques, each of which are time consuming and necessary to achieve top-flight tone & response. None of this process is cheap, fast or easy. If you've ever had the pleasure of hearing these amazing pickups, then you know they are worth the wait & every penny.

The Virgil Arlo Collection of Guitar Pickups from Tone Specific are physically and sonically identical to the original Virgil Arlo Pickups made by the man himself.

There will certainly be folks who only want to use the original "White Label Arlo's" in their guitars. That's great if you can find them & even better if you can afford them. For everyone else, we are proud to present the Virgil Arlo Pickup Collection by Tone Specific. Everyone that has played them has loved them. We know you will too.

"I've tried all of the more expensive pickups. The Arlo's sound amazing. I can't say enough good things about them. Now I'm wondering if there's not some proprietary technique that only Virgil Arlo knows to make pickups that sound this good"

Colby from Chelsea Guitar in NYC is great guitar player & he was kind enough to play in this video that showcases to the Dean Gordon Hotelecaster (made from the pre-cival war pine form the old floors of the historic Chelsea Hotel in NYC).

“These pickups respond just like vintage pickups. What makes them better than vintage pickups is that each set is consistent. You don’t don’t get that with vintage pickups…some are great & some are duds. The Tone Specific’s always sound amazing. There's nothing else like these on the market.”
