I have a son who is the greatest kid and when I gave him guitar lessons (15 years ago) he would take my black Melody Maker up to his room and play chords and bang the thing into his bed posts. He was and is an adorable kid. I gave him that guitar and a VOX AC 10 about 8 months ago.

I’ve been looking for the same guitar model on line. They’re not terribly expensive and I was so happy to give that guitar to my son.

I found one from a seller called “Bills Guitars” on reverb and I just received it. It’s perfect. 2006 wasn’t that long ago but to find a special thing from[IMG] back then fills my heart with joy. It would be awesome to have a photo of my son and I playing the same guitar. We will get around to that.

    Have a great evening everyone.

    John

I have the 2007 white one. cold sounding with not much sustain. The Gibson repair guy says they are 1/2 Burstbucker pickup. Its like a Dano meets a Tele. Its a unique sound so i will leave it alone. I have two P-90 guitars so i dont need to mod this into that.

Agreed! I had a 2004-ish with 1 P90, wish I’d hung on to. My 1st decent electric was a heavily modded’63. Nice score OP!

I still have an almost-stock '60 MMD, I actually had a second one that had been modded to death but I sold that one decades ago. The one I still have was my 1st guitar.

The old ones had an alnico blade pickup that is a lot more output, about 7-7.5kohm. The newer ones are 4kohm and ceramic magnet with a steel blade inside the coil. A few people do a great take on the old ones but you have to modify the guard. I fitted a Seymour SSL4 flatpole to mine and it beefed it up no end. Still sounds like a MM.

I have the exact same guitar down to color - it’s an absolute stonking resonant little monster, with an appropriately crappy fished-from-the-bin pickup. I have a Mojotone GA-5 kit on the way, which is 95% Tweed Champ DNA in a Gibson form-factor, and I’m really excited to hear that combination.

    Use it in good health.
