Under the Christmas tree was a new Fender MIM Roasted Maple, flat D oval, 12” radius neck made by Fender.

It arrived in Santa’s workshop about a month ago and I got to take the elf’s job and get it ready for my Tele. It came with a beautiful satin finish on the back and a nasty high gloss on the fingerboard and headstock. I knocked off the high gloss, added a nice roll to fingerboard edges and redressed all the fret ends. I then cut the nut after I installed it today.

I really like the slightly chunkier flat D shape compared to the original C shape. My old hands like the bit more meat on the neck.

You can see how glossy the origional finish was on the fingerboard and headstock

Nice! Without sounding stupid is that neck pickup a Charlie Christian?

Love the color combo. Beautiful guitar.

Can you tell us more about the Charlie Christian? :)

I never really liked the roasted look, but its growing on me. What grit(s) sandpaper did you use? Wet?

I love playing a Tele, but I also love a warm tone. The CC gives me that from the neck and I still have twang in the bridge if I want it.

I first hit it with a green scotch-bright pad then I used 600 grit that was damp, not soaking wet. I only sanded With the pad and sandpaper with the grain, up and down the neck and the headstock.

That looks like the Strat version of the neck.

I have the 70s big Strat headstock with 12” radius maple neck on my Squier Tele Deluxe. I love it as a change of pace.

OP: I love that guitar with your new roasted maple neck and the CC neck pickup. You almost triggered my GAS. o_O

Is it really fuller/fatter than a C-shape? Always looked like it was the thinnest profile in the diagrams.

It for sure has more meat to it. I thought this neck, just being offered by Fender, was a slightly different/newer profile. Could be wrong about that. I know my 5 yr old MIM Tele had a thinner neck and even a slightly narrower nut.
