My BSB Tele has a maple fretboard. I can't see the strings on it clearly without wearing glasses. My other guitars all have rosewood and ebony fretboards. I can see the strings clearly on them w/o the cheaters.

I have a highly modified MIM Telecaster with a maple neck, and it's a joy.
Also have a partscaster with a rosewood Mighty Mite neck, and it's also great.
And a Hamer Special with ebony, and it's phenomenal.
End of day, depends on the individual guitar and what genre of music you do.
My first Fender had a rosewood board, so it's a sentimental favorite.
There are worse problems to have!

So nice to see another maple/rosewood thread, it's been too long!🙄

Actually, we are now in maple/pao ferro/nato/Indian Laurel/ebony/richlite/etc. territory.

Roasted maple is the way to go. It doesn’t need a finish, so that saves you money. And if you can forego the “flame”, you can keep the price in control. I recently ordered a Warmoth neck for my American Series Tele. I got roasted maple, no finish, Clapton V-carve, compound radius, narrow/tall frets, and truss rod adjust at headstock. Altogether with shipping was about $325. It’s the best neck I’ve ever played on a Fender-style guitar. It was going to cost me $400 to have the original neck re-fretted, so I considered it a great deal. Of course, the 7-week wait wasn’t much fun.

I've never owned a maple fretboard guitar, so that's what I'd choose just to find out if I liked it.

Upgrading my neck on Tele. Not sure to go the maple or rosewood route?

Probably vintage 80s... 4 bolt
I was always about the darker neck, as I feel the light maple can look a bit… anaemic, if you know what I mean? …but my Daphne blue Tele has a maple neck and my Les Paul rosewood, of course, and I like the contrast.
Maple neck looks good in the pic 👍
