    Hi,

I have been a frequent reader of this forum for a while and recently picked up playing guitar again after 5 years. I have owned strats, les pauls and a jaguar but always longed for a tele. A month ago I decided to get my self a new amp and a decent tele as a christmas/birthday present. This forum was the place when I searched ideas as what kind of amp and tele to get. I wanted an american tele but did not want to spend more than 1000 for it. Ampwise I wanted a small tube amp with 6V6’s.
So, after some browsing and searching around I found a great deal on a Supro 1605r and Fender American Special Tele. I’ve had them now for couple weeks and I’m really happy what I’ve got. Gigging days are long gone for me, so the little 5 watt amp is perfect for some late night home playing. I play mostly blues and old rock and the Tele is perfect for it! Now I have to dig out my ’62 reissue Strat from 1985 from the storage and get some SRV tunes out of it..

Now, it’s time for pedal hunting. Any suggestions for a plexi-type pedal with a boost? I was thinking about Mad Professor’s Loud and Proud.

    Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! That is one fine looking Tele. Gorgeous color combination. My colleagues also has an Am Special Tele that he loves. Incidentally, he is also Finnish! :D

How is that Supro - can you describe the tones? I've played some bigger ones, like the Saturn Reverb and it had a lovely voice.

Welcome. Hey .... nice setup you have there.

My favourite pedal is a Klon clone. IMO it's a 'must have' pedal.
The gain pot is dual ganged, so as you increase the gain you increase the distortion. Useful as (somewhat) clean boost, overdrive, or dirt depending on how it's set.

Thanks! I’m loving the Tele so far. I have to adjust my playing style due to the jumbo frets as my strat has very small vintage frets and 7,25 radius.

The Supro is amazing little thing. It has those sparkly Fendery cleans and it’s smooth and soft sounding. It breaks up at manageable volume, so I don’t disturb the wifey or kids. I just need a good drive pedal with it. It has been awhile since I last played a tube amp as my previous nr 1 amp was a Line6 Vetta and my bedroom amp a Yamaha THR. But so far I’m really happy with the Supro. It has a real tube driven spring reverb that sounds good in every setting. Only downsize is that it only has a 8” speaker that makes it somewhat boxy sounding.

My friend has a J Rocket Archer, so I might try that out, thanks!

That’s a sweet amp and guitar rig you have there! Very, very .

I have no recommendation for a “Marshall in a Box” pedal—I’ve never chased that particular tone—but I’ll watch this thread to see what other people recommend, because I might need to add that color to my sonic palette at some point.

That looks really nice, and that amp seems really cool, I guess it has reverb.

The only other with a boost I can think of is Wampler's Plexi Drive. If the boost is not an absolute must and if you have the chance, try Ramble FX's Marvel 3 - I'm really pleased with mine.

    Also, welcome.

    Welcome.

On the pedals, my favorites are a Klone (MXR Sugar Drive) and a Rat. I also occasionally use an old DOD 250 and a cheap Suhr Riot clone.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I’ll definately try a klon clone and the Wampler PlexiDrive.

A trip to my storage room and here is what I found. Reunited after 5 years plus the new member. Have to dust them off and give them a string change and setup. I know what I’m doing during the holidays..
