I’m Jeff from Denver. I’m a long time lurker and one time member (long time ago-can’t remember login) and I felt the need to get back to interacting with guitar people.
I’ve been a tele guy for the last 22 years or so. It started with a really nice 52 Reissue that I had for a couple years. I sold that to buy a black on black 77 Tele Deluxe which I then sold(should never had sold it, such a cool guitar) to buy a Les Paul.

My current Tele is Crusty. A 76 Tele that has quite a story, most of which is a mystery to me. I bought him about 17 years ago off eBay from a guy in Mississippi for super cheap. Took a chance and got lucky. He came in a tweed case spray painted black with one working latch and a bungee cord, had a Confederate flag pickguard, completely worn frets, and electronics patched together with electrical tape.

The most unique part about Crusty is the body modification the previous owner did to him. All the paint has been stripped, fake leather and snakeskin strip from the bridge wrapping down an up the back with metal studs. Very outlaw if you ask me. Oh yeah a brass nut too.

I replaced replaced the pickguard with a black one. Refretted with jumbos. Replaced the pickups(Gibson 490r neck, Rio Grande Dirty Harry bridge)Replaced all the electronics.

Crusty is a great sounding guitar. He’s a bit heavy at 9.3 lbs, but that weight gives serious tone. Super ballsy rock and roll tone. Nice medium neck. The only thing I don’t like is the ****ty brushed on poly finish the previous owner put on. It feels cheap and this guitar deserves better.
That’s probably going to be my fist question. How to refinish the guitar while keeping the embellishments.

    my other guitars are:
2015 Gibson CS LP Special TV Yellow
2003 Baker B1 Jr Heritage Cherry
    1980 Taylor Acoustic

    Amp- Fargen Miniplex

Anyway.. that’s a long intro. I look forward to interacting with you all.

    Cheers
    Jeff

Welcome! I'm a bit south of you in Colorado Springs. Crusty sounds like it has an interesting backstory and personality.

Welcome back. I'd love to see pics of Crusty, but your links don't work.
If your pics are stored in your computer, simply write your post, hit "Upload a File", select pictures you want to include, and then hit "Post Reply"......easy-peazy. ;)

    They're there now, thanks.
Cool guitar, and I see why you say it's got some history. ;)
Looks aside, that 9.3 lbs is a "back breaker" for me. My 1993 Tele weighs in at 8 lbs, and on a longer gig it's very tiring. In 2019, I built another with a Paulownia body, total weight a hair over 5 lbs. Sounds great, but almost too light. (neck dive :( )

    Welcome Jeff.

I'm just up the hill from you in Conifer. Crusty is awesome. A bit heavy for me, but awesome still!

He’s really heavy. It weights more than my last Les Paul std. About an hour strapped up is about all I can stand.
