I posted this on the main page before I saw there's a Squier forum...
I bought a Squier CV 50's Telecaster last week and I'm joining the TDPRI as I haven't been on here for years (since I had a Japanese Blue flower Telecaster many moons ago). It's a 2013 made in China model and I noticed there were some differences between the Chinese and Indonesian made Tele's. The Chinese ones have the Telecaster part of the decal closer to the Squier by Fender part rather than at the end of the headstock, the string tree is beside the G tuner rather than closer to the nut end of the headstock, the nut says it's bone but I'm not convinced, brass bridge saddles (mine were switched out for compensated brass ones) and domed tone & volume pot knobs. These are the differences I can find so far and I wondered if the pickups are the same or not? I read a post that said they have Toneriders in the Chinese ones. Any extra info is greatly appreciated and thanks for having me :)

Hello, jabby - glad you could join us!
That's a nice tele you've got (I remember reading your Blue Flower post a while back).
Not sure what a pickups are on there - it's pretty early and Chinese, so it might well have the good pickups on it, but frankly these are good guitars and great buys anyway...
I have a Chinese 2009 CV in Vintage Blond that I have never thought of swapping out the pickups. the headstock looks pretty much the same as mine (although yours has some nicer flecking in that maple) the nut looks identical - it's amost certainly plastic, I never bothered swapping that out either.
I would advise you see how you like it after playing it for a few weeks... you might decide it's fine just as it is...

The pups in a lot of those guitars were made in the same factory that makes Toneriders.

As to whether they are the same pups, well, maybe or maybe not.

Is a Squier the same as a different brand guitar which happens to be made in the same factory?

Congrats on scoring that beauty of a tele!! Love the silking on the headstock and wood grain. I've got a 2010 made in China Squier CVC that I've never been tempted to mod, it's perfect the way it is.
