So I went to the church's Monday night rehearsal
and talked to John. man he must think I'm stalking him
    or something! Lol.

John decided to bring a pedal board and bypass his
Fender amp. He had a Reverend Overdrive which I really wanted to hear direct
but for the most part, he played the piano a good part of the evening.

My next chance to hear him will be next Sunday and I hope he
continues with the direct overdrive and further experiments with his tone.

On a side note, he is a nice guy and my initial assumption of him being
a youngster was shattered as we talked face to face. I really need to start wearing
my glasses more! Plus, his guitar of choice lately is a Samick similar to the
    picture I posted above.

Here's last Sunday's service I was talking about:

I invited John to come visit this forum and particularly this thread.
Don't know if he will, but the invite still stands.

Having a guitar player up there on Sunday mornings will keep me
groovin' in my seat. Two keyboard players are good but an added guitar is gooderer.

His tone was perfect for WILCO or any Alternative Christian Radio mush. (Crowder is probably calling him right now!)

If I recall he's playing through a Fender something amp. If I were to play direct into a a board but get a Fender-ish sound, I might try a Tech 21 Blonde (or the less expensive Joyo American Sound) at the end of my chain.

Sure, I did ask him what toys he had on his board and whether or not he used
a volume pedal for those cool sounding swells........ He just looked at me like,
" Really boss? Do I look like that kinda guy?" Lol

Okay okay, maybe volume swells and gettin' verbed out is just my thing?
    Who knew!

I have to ask myself, what's the angle here?
Why am I taking this time to archive a guitarist's
sound that I don't even know?

I hope he has lots of toys and he brings them
to the P&W sandlot. So far, I've seen a Boss Delay and Chorus,
some incarnation of a Cry Baby wah, and that Reverend OD.

Yesterday John and I had a texting session
and he liked the way this thread was presented.
He said he chuckled over the young guy comment.
So did I once I learned he was a grandfather! lol.

    Pawnshop Samick guitar.
Apparently what he plays out with and dug up out of the closet
    recently.

He also gave me permission to post this video of his playing
the very same Samick guitar. Enjoy!

43:00. I miss Prince too. If only we could see him laughing underneath a purple rain.

    Really?

I've come to understand some folks are on permanent rock star status.

    Including Prince.

Purple Rain was like, 30+ years ago.
    How would you remember that?
You must still have a VCR that has a functioning Rewind.

If you've purified yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka, then time is irrelevant.
