Very similar to other stories here, playing for 20 years thought the telecaster's were mostly twang machines to be avoided. But 10 years ago reading up on all of Jimmy pages antics I said eventually I'll have to try some telecaster's. Bought a knockoff telecaster from Michael Kelly with Lindy Fralin steel pole pickups, it was a great introduction, very dirty nasty pickups, just played wonderfully. Except, it didn't seem to stay in tune & very difficult to intonate, the triple barrel brass saddles sadly seemed not good adjusting. And I couldn't believe how insanely noisy single coils were. Several pickup swaps later with no satisfaction, out the door she went. Then I started watching all the American elite telecaster YouTube video reviews. Noiseless? tell me more? Went to guitar center 2 different occasions playing the American elite, very close to purchasing however I decided I wanted the ocean turquoise which they did not have. So a few weeks ago it happened, next level surprise, WOW look what I found Holy smokes! Instant love at first sight guitar Center had a special run for 2019. Quilted maple top, very subtly different to the 100% alder, it's just absolutely perfect tone, I absolutely am head over heels for the N4, pickups I would not have purchased another telecaster if it wasn't for these quiet pickups, and they simply seem so similar to the extremely noisy ones for subtlety and picking dynamics I think that's why everybody loves telecaster's those picking dynamics. Grand slam homerun for Fender. I literally put my Les Paul in its case and haven't played it for 40 days it's disappeared. I've probably owned about 40 guitars to finally find this absolutely amazing tone machine and it's unbelievably beautiful looks and tone, I've never felt a neck so perfect the satin finish just. I do not work for guitar center, I really do like guitar center, mostly.
