You never need one, but you want one and that counts towards your mental health in my opinion. If it doesn't work out, you can always sell it (for less money probably) but then you've scratched the itch. I once bought a Rickenbacker 360 12 string because I thought I needed it and was jonesing for one. Once I put it into action and realized it was just a one trick pony, I soon got tired of it and sold it. One good thing is that I never want another one. Problem solved!

^^^This^^^

Nobody in the world needs even a single guitar. A guitar could have never even been invented and this world would still exist. People only really need food, water, shelter, and a few other basic/primal things. But who wants to live like that...?

This coming from someone with over 20 guitars - and still not done buying... It doesn't matter if you NEED it. There's just 4 questions to ask yourself when buying which are...

1.) Will you enjoy it?
2.) Will you play it as much as the others?
3.) Will you respect it?
4.) Can I actually afford it?

"What does question 3 mean?" It means you will keep up with it, give it a good home, love it. Contrary to popular belief, maintaining is far different from enjoying. Do what needs to be done. Take care of a guitar, and it will take care of you!

Do you need it?

No, but life is short and as Hunter Thompson said: you can’t hoard fun; it has no shelf life.

If you’re not going to miss a rent payment or cheap out on a kids birthday or your anniversary to your wife then make the dumb purchase and regret it or don’t and sell other stuff to off set it or don’t and keep an eye out for other gems.

Or don’t.

It sounds like you only have 10 guitars, so YES, you need it.
I have over 30 in the house, 10 are Strats, all MIA, mostly AV and AVRI, and I'm always looking for something new. And since my only GT is a '68 LP, that might be a color to consider.
I am there with ya. And I am beginning to feel guilty and anxious that I have to downsize.

The only things you won't get validation for on here are things like hard drug use, enlisting for the Russian army and Morris dancing. If it doesn't tick any of those boxes, then fill your boots.
Oh, post some pics when you get it.

“What is Morris dancing?”, he asked just a little fearfully..

Have we been tricked?

The title of this thread is "New Guitar ..do i really need it !!" worded as in a way that is not in the form of a question. Rather, a proclamation followed by an exclamation. No question mark. I'm not a grammar expert but hear me out.

The body of the post AGAIN does not phrase any questions. There is a question mark in it but it used in a figurative manner while being in the wrong place and after another punctuation which was period marks.

I conclude that OP has already made up his mind. If not intentionally, then subconsciously.

Awaiting the inevitable NGD announcement.

I've been there and done that. I just had to have it and followed up with the purchase. Until I stopped cold turkey it was an unbeatable addiction. I'm not saying you should stop. I kept it up for over 50 years and, honestly, loved every minute of it. Guitar ownership and collection is a wonderful hobby. You have to fit it to your budget but, as long as you've got the cash or can make the payments, do what makes you happy. I've got all my favorite guitars, amps and effects and now I'm done. It was a hell of a fun ride while it lasted.

I don't have any solid answer for you, just some thoughts:

1) You now have only 1 Tele, but 10 Les Pauls. That's an egregious imbalance. Could you part with one of the LPs to justify getting the second Tele?

2) If your age is as your profile says, how confident are you with your retirement savings? If you're in that demographic with less than $200k saved, I'd say definitely "NO!" to getting another guitar. And I'd say sell a couple of the LPs and invest the proceeds. It's a good time to sell guitars.

3) It's gold, and having a Tele in gold would give you a trifecta of gold guitars. So, there's that.

4) Besides the gold paint, is there anything substantially different about this Tele from the one you have? Like fretboard radius or rosewood vs. maple fretboard, or significantly lighter weight? If there's nothing beyond the paint color, I'd say "no" to getting it.

Does that help?
Not one to muck about, he also shared quite amusing musings on hydration/fish, children/eyesight/earshot/isolation… I bet his bits on playing pool, and at the malt shop would probably still play strong today!

Collecting items is based on the premise of buying things that you really do not need. Sometimes (actually a lot of times) that desire is driven by something you read about on internet forums such as this one. You read people talking about how great something is that you want to join the group and own one as well...then wonder why you did a few months later.

I was convinced that I had to own an AVRI tele at some point. I checked the listings weekly trying to find a good deal on one, but never finding it. Then one day I discovered the '51 Telecaster spec limited edition Tele sold in 2006. It had all the same specs minus the butterscotch color (used a natural nitro instead) and even kept the original dark circuit wiring....and they were selling far cheaper than any of the AVRI models at the time.

So, I jumped on the deal and walked away with a mint '51 Telecaster model for the price of a used American Standard model. Then I had to find a proper case for it and had my guy go through it and make sure it was set up for best play-ability. Everyone at the shop was impressed with it and I thought I had found the Telecaster to rule all in my collection. I even started thinking about selling off much of the herd at the time.

Don't get me wrong, it is a great guitar and really nails the vintage thing, but I never sold off the herd and actually play it far less than I expected. It spends most of the time in a case right next to a Baja 50's Classic that I also just had to have before it. Both great, yet my number one remains a simple telecaster that I built from scratch using 140 year old pine that I reclaimed from my house.

I guess this was taking a long walk around the barn to suggest that you probably do not need that guitar and that it will likely become just another case queen if you already have a guitar that you are happy with.
