It seems like an Ultra Luxe with stainless steel frets and regular pickups (not the noiseless the Ultra line uses). This seems like a big premium for standard single coils and stainless frets.

Nitro finish and some have ash bodies.

The prior Ultra Luxe models were something like $2,650 before their recent price cut so we're talking a $350 increase (give or take). The Ultra Luxe were always $4-500 more than the "regular" Ultra (which has now been replaced by the Ultra II).

So what's the name after Ultra? I'm sure Ultra III isn't on the table.

Next year, Fender will be releasing the new:

Player Beginner Professional Custom Vintage Millennial Traditional Modern Bullet HSH Relic Fresh New Old Stock Nitro Session Studio Nashville Carbonita Telestratocaster.

I came here to say that it sounds like Fender is trying to catch up with some of the products Harley-Davidson announced this year:

XCBCCBBU Heritage Super Hydra Custom Hard Hydra Rod
XLCHCHBDG Standard Ultra Electra Convertible Soft Rider
FLCHU Hard Dyna Electra Soft Electra Dyna Standard Glide

Here's a good feature summary borrowed from Sweetwater:

Interesting; I put a PV51 set in my Classic 50s MIM so I can sell it (I'd pinched what was in there previously). When I bought them they were the cheapest Fender pickups on Thomann for a Tele. Not that there is anything wrong with them; I did a side by side between some older OVs I have and the OVs just pipped the PV51s to my ears. Just surprises me that they've put one of their cheaper sets in this quite expensive model.

Probably trying to tap into the suhr, g&l, ibanez, and other high end t-types. I can't beieve how expensive these guitars have gotten. I guess people are buying them so they probably said why not us.

The new bastardized strat line. So disappointed fender is making this crap. Literally consolidated 3 current brand lines into one and marked the price up. Great move for fender profit as no new tooling - just take crap off one line and put it o the other.

I don’t get all these modern lines from fender? They own charvel, Jackson, and EVH-why not make traditional fenders ?

I guess I’m old fashioned. At the end of the day people buy this crap and that’s why they make it - not me !

I sympathize to some extent--Fender can;t win no matter what they do. But not sure what is "vintage" about these? Although I suppose you could argue that a guitar from the 80s or 90s is now a "vintage" guitar, to my mind "vintage" in a tele means three saddle bridge, truss rod nut at the heel, 7.25 neck radius, and maybe the original wiring.

I think it's more about tempting people who didn't buy the existing stuff. It isn't as cynical as you make out.

I've been following this launch very closely and there are a number of people who wouldn't have bought an Ultra but will buy one of these.

Fender are very good at having literally something for everyone. No matter your taste, style or budget. This is just an expansion of that.

That said, I do think the price might be a little too rich for some people. That's a symptom of the times more than anything else but that's quite a price point. Between my Ultras and my AV2s, I don't need to go ULV as much as I think they're cool.
