Got the new MF catalog today, and there's a single page feature highlighting the new Fender Bassbreaker series. Anyone had a chance to hear one yet?

Not really, at $650 for the 15 watt combo it's more expensive than the Blues Junior. The 7 watt head is $399; that's pretty steep compared to something like the Valve Junior that started the little head trend.

Neither can I, other than one thread from last month on the Fender forum. Looks like they are MIM. Some additional info from the ad copy, for those who haven't had a chance to see it yet:

I'm interested in a 15 watt Bassman, but something tells me that's not what we actually have here.

Fender released a bass breaker around 10 years ago for only about a year. It was a bassman in a 2x12 chassis with vintage 30s. Fairly cheap too. I haven't found any info about these new releases but I am VERY interested to see how this new series turns out! Thx for the post!

I don't think these are the bassbreakers we all know and love...

Been close many times to pulling trigger on VibroChamp XD to convert to head and put on my alnico 15 cab, but might be glad I've been slightly outbid each time. 7 watts to replace the Vox lil' night train, or park next to it?

O.k., it's not cheap, but I see 5 knobs on there. Don't know what they do, and also if it has more than one pre-amp valve it's probably better than the Valve Junior.

    Ah...

I´ve only yet seen that they´re new + available, and after seeing the prices on the 7w-amp I thought that might be my x-mas-present to myself!
But now that I found out how ugly they are, I´ll have to keep looking for something else ;)

    cheers - 68.

It wouldn't take much to be better than a Valve Jr.

Early rumors are el84 in 7 and 15 watters and el 34 in 45 watter. Dang, I need me some 6v6 in the amp stable. Might have to find ambition and build a 5f1 out of junk drawer.

I'm curious if the 7-watt combo has an 8 or 10 inch speaker. With a 10 it could be a grab and go for small jams......

Cab emulated line out, 4,8,16 ohm output transformer, and a few interesting settings. Only issue I have is the junky looking push buttons. It probably looks like an updated pro Jr inside (the 15 watt model).

Can't we just let Marshall make the Marshalls and Fender make the Fenders? Why do we need Fender to make Marshalls?

... and don't go telling me the Bassman/JTM45 story because I already know it and Marshalls very quickly became their own thing.

Marshall doesn't make anything in this price range as far as JTM (maybe JMP50?) sounds - all of their sub $1000 offerings, brand new, are all high gain DSL affairs. Fender is going to stop making fenders, if they can offer another line with the early Marshall sound at a price point Marshall can't/is not willing to do, why not?

I think it's brilliant and this has the potential to be a home run for Fender.

I was looking at the 15 watt as a small club amp but with that price, I think I'll just buy a smaller Blackstar to go with the 40 watt I have. Seems like Fender is going for a similar thing with "Boutique voices".
