they can't just break your ***** and not compensate you for it. Unless of course they found drugs and you're currently posting from prison.

Stories like this just disgust me. How do these people sleep at night after totally destroying someone's dream purchase?

I hope that they provide you with some compensation

Sounds like someone doing the inspection was jealous . . . they should be fired or at least nailed to a wall

Sounds like they suspected the guitar was a mule for contraband. Drill through the body to see if there are any chambers.. Pull off the fret board for same reason. Ever watch the Reality TV show about US Customs? See what they do to cars that they suspect are being used by smugglers.. Surely they aren't batting 100% and some of these cars are clean. Never any mention of reimbursing the owners of these vehicles.

    I'm sorry for your trouble.
The savaging of of your gear is unjustifiable.
I don't think this act has any possible explanation.
I would photograph the remains and take it to the press and my m.p.

I'd try push for enough compensation to cover return flights to the USA to go collect the next one Fender make you.

Here's a Macbook that Israeli Customs decided to fire upon because they were suspicious of it:

I wonder if the nitro lacquer triggered some sort of "bomb sniffing" robot or something.

Well after getting my fill of vindaloo and topped with lashings of Indian lager last night ive come to the conclusion that sh** happens for a reason. I don't think there's any chance of compensation as ive got my deposit back in full. The shop may be able to get something back as they paid Fender in full.

What am i going to do now ? well i decided am going to build a Tele. With my shop discount am going to buy a genuine Fender body and neck and upgrade the electrics from the standard as i go along. Have it spray in the frosted gold i wanted then get the shop to do the final set for me. I can't be as had as the hollow body acoustic i made from scratch a few year back.
    Life goes on

good plan, glad the vindaloo helped.

Don't think I'd buy anything from US again. I would still buy US products just from a dealer/shop in this country.

    Glad your sorting it though

Seen this sort of thing many times, just not with guitars.

Customs officials are accountable to no one. You would be amazed at what they steal and destroy.

Possibly some jealous customs agent that figured "some rich guy will just love this, I'll give this Fender a cavity search"!
    What a douch bag!

Lucky am not out of pocket.
It was like waiting for Christmas hoping for that special GI Joe doll and ending up with a Barbie

Tomorrow picking up the new Fender body and neck, loads of cloth covered wire, CTS pots, scratch plate and the shiny bits. The Joe Barden pickups should be with me at the end of the week. Going to get it so plays then strip it down for paint and varnish. Within 2 weeks i should have a nice Tele.
As am making it with 95% fender parts will it be classed as a Fender Tele or a partcaster ?

Wow, scary story - all of it. I would have expected better from HM Customs.

And sorry, but if the body and neck didn't originally come finished and together from Fender, then it's a partcaster.

As i will properly never sell it wont matter to me. I can mix and match the best parts from different decades. I will still put Fender on the head as the 2 parts will be genuine fender.
